SUMMARY:
Our client in Saudi Arabia is looking for a Hot Mill Operator to join their operations. This position reports directly to the Hot Rolling Shift Supervisor.

POSITION INFO:
Overall Job Purpose

  • This position is responsible to operate various controls of hot reversing roughing mill & heavy shear and process preheated ingots of various grades and sizes to the required bar thickness for further processing at hot continuous mill to attain calculated production rate. 
  • Ensures smooth rolling operations by checking all data entries, Level I and Level II set-up relative to slab tracking and rolling parameters, that mill is set to automatic mode by conducting dummy bar rolling prior to mill start-up. Also, ensures good standards of housekeeping in the work area, compliance with all the standard working and safety procedures and instructions. 
  • Performs any additional task as assigned by Lead Operator or Supervisor.

  • Takes reasonable care for his health and safety in the workplace. He must also take reasonable care for the health and safety of others who may be affected by what he does.
  • Cooperates with EHS team about any action they take to comply with the EHS Act or Regulations.
  • Contributes to Near miss reporting
  • Contributes to Quality and EHS Audits.

Job Relevant Information Boundaries and Decision-making Authority)

General Safety, Health and Quality System Responsibilities
  • In the work place, wear always required PPEs and follow safe work practices as per EHS policies & procedures.
  • Identify and evaluate potential / existing safety problems, suggesting solutions and recommending suitable corrective measures
  • Provide an open means by which subordinates / sub-contractors can communicate safety concerns, when possible action the items and when not ensure these are passed to personnel / sections for further actions.
  • Actively participate in implementation of Maaden Safety Policy by example and communication to subordinates.
  • Report, investigate and monitor near misses/incidents in area of control, conduct and participate in all activities relating removal of hazards in your work area.
  • Assist with identification of hazards arising from activities in work area, ensuring that all are communicated to relevant personnel in order to maintain a hazard free work area.
  • Follow the procedures and instructions related to EHS within the scope of the work area.
General Accountabilities
  • Implements general activities such as Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), problem solving and 5S in assigned area.
  • Maintains safe working condition in the Hot Reversing Mill and follow safe working procedures and procedures related to the area.
  • Identifies EHS, operation and quality issues/problems and reports to Shift Supervisor for immediate action.
  • During stoppage or breakdown work with other team member and maintenance to see line in running.
  • Maintains close coordination with all preheat operators, HCM operators, quality operator and maintenance team.
  • Assists maintenance team during planned maintenance down day /annual shut down.
  • Performs any additional task given by Shift Supervisor.
  • As required, he needs to work in a specific area and follows the respective area jobs.
  • Maintain a clean working environment of his area including the pulpit and immediate floor area
Specific Duties:
  • Operates Hot Reversing mill controls to reduce preheated ingot to the required transfer bar thickness and width and maintains standard ingot discharge interval to attain calculated production rate.
  • Ensures smooth rolling operations by checking roll data entries, Level I and Level II set-up relative to slab tracking and rolling parameters, that mill is set to automatic mode by conducting dummy bar rolling prior to mill start-up.
  • Observes condition of the ingot being processed for surface quality, potential processing problems such as camber, alligator, and turn up or turn down and makes necessary correction.
  • Conducts HRM work rolls and back-up rolls change and checks correct roll data entries, roll coolant, emulsion, roll surface cleaners, wipers, and roll strippers.
  • Accomplishes equipment checklist prior to start-up after down day or shutdown.
  • Monitors work rolls and back-up rolls life for planned roll change.
  • Calibrates the mill after each roll change & Entry & Exit guides after down days, shutdowns and power outages.
  • Logs process abnormalities, critical adjustments in operating parameters such as offset levelling, and turn-up and turn-down correction.
  • Calibrates heavy shear side guides.
  • Ensures timely replacement of scrap buckets by AGV.
  • Assists ground crew in cobble removal.
  • Assists Preheat Furnace operator during emergencies.
  • Provides direction and troubleshooting assistance to maintenance whenever a process or equipment abnormality is observed.
  • Identifies and rectifies quality problems, suggests solutions and corrective actions.
  • Coordinates with other control pulpit operators, crane operators, and mill floor crews for safe and productive operations.
  • Inspects table rolls for any slivers or loose debris.
  • Ensures good standards of housekeeping in the work area.
  • Follows standard working procedures and instructions.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Educational Qualifications:
  • Minimum high school is required. Minimum computer knowledge required. Must have good communication skills in written & oral in English.
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years operational experience in hot rolling mill operations.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of the specific process being operated is required.
 Skills:
  • Must possess problem solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Computer knowledge is an advantage.
  • Good command of the English language.
