POSITION INFO:

Health, Safety & Environmental Officer Requirements:

• Must be registered with SACPCMP as Safety Officer
• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle
• Minimum 4 years’ experience as Safety Officer
• Ability to write a professional email, draft required site paper work and communication

Duties:

• Ensure all COVID-19 compliance is carried out and maintained as per DOL
• COVID-19 Screening for new employees
• Establish safety files including all required, relevant information and forms for our existing and new sites
• Audit sites every second week to ensure Vortex is compliant from a safety point of view
• Attend audit meetings with the main contractor as required. This can be combined with the biweekly meetings above if possible
• Assist and guide the foreman on site where necessary to ensure they understand what is necessary to comply with standard safety requirements on site
• Make suggestions regarding staff required for Scaffold Erectors, First Aid etc.
• Book any necessary training for site staff
• Compile bi-weekly reports after your site visits that are to be given to the Contracts Manager responsible for that site in order to keep them abreast of the site safety
• Co-ordinating the health, safety and environmental programmes on all sites
• Enforce precautionary measures as determined by management
• Report any deviations that need to be addressed to management
• Arrange for health and safety representatives to conduct inspections of their areas of responsibility on a monthly a basis
• Reporting and investigation of all incidents and accidents that occur on site as well as completion of the necessary documentation
• Planning and co-ordinating inspection of various items of plant and machinery on site and arranging for the completion of the necessary registers and inspection reports (firefighting equipment, portable electric equipment, ladders, scaffolding, formwork and support work, lifting tackle, pressure vessels, safety harness etc.)
• Arranging for the issue and control of personal protective equipment
