POSITION INFO:
Head Guide | Lion Sands Game Reserve | 5 Star Lodge
We are looking for an experienced HEAD GUIDE to join the team of a well-known, luxury lodge located in Lion Sands Game Reserve in Mpumalanga
The Head Guide will be required to manage, lead and mentor the Safari Team in its entirety and see to the implementation and management of all aspects regarding to the Safari Operation.
Key Focus Areas for the Head Guide:
- Ensure all guides and trackers comply with the required legal guiding/driving certifications, registrations and regulations as well as Company and Reserve requirements
- Monitor manage and be responsible for Safari department, equipment and vehicles
- Personnel and office administration
- Assist with incident management
- Hots guests during their stay at the lodges
- Conduct guided game drives with guests
- Facilitation of good interpersonal relations between safari staff, lodge staff and guests
- To facilitate and assist with guest queries and requests
- Monitor an enforce reserve, lease agreement and/or concession rules and regulations
- Evaluate, train, mentor and develop staff
- Provide leadership, guidance and counselling to team members
- Take corrective action when required in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures
In consultation with the Camp Manager
Requirements – Qualifications and Skills
- Minimum FGASA Professional Field Guide with Trails Guide Qualification
- ARH and Rifle Proficiency, First Aid Level 2
- Driver’s license with PDP
- Previous experience as Assistant Head Guide and Head Guide advantageous
- Sound knowledge of planning, budgeting and departmental administration
- Excellent attention to detail, excellent hygiene principles
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), practicing honest communication
- Team player with positive attitude, enthusiasm and emotional control
- Able to work with a group of Head Guides and Training College
- Excellent time management and self-discipline, interpersonal and problem-solving skills
- Must work accurately under pressure
- Leadership skills with passion for development and skills transfer
Starting date: October 2021 (interviews will be conducted throughout August – Mid September)
Salary Package
- Negotiable depending on experience and skills

- Accommodation, single room with private bathroom
- 3 Meals per day
