SUMMARY:
Our client, a busy stainless steel service centre requires a candidate with experience, preferably from a steel fabrication background.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Qualifications:

Grade 12/ equivalent
SAMTRAC, SACPCMP registration would be an advantage
Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

Experience and Requirements:

Minimum 3 years’ proven experience as health and safety officer preferably in the production/workshop/steel industry.
Computer literate
Knowledge on relevant legislation (OSHA)
Knowledge on ISO 45001 implementation and Internal auditing
ISO 9001:2015 understanding and knowledge would be an added advantage
Of sober habits
Own reliable transport
A valid driver’s license
A stable work record and contactable references
Self -motivated and ability to work in a team

Duties and responsibilities:

Ensure the compliance of the company to the health and safety act.
Developing, implementing, and improving the health and safety plans, programs, and procedures in the company.
Ensuring compliance with the relevant health and safety legislation.
Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
Conduct safety inspections and risk assessment and enforce preventative measures.
Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation.
Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives.
Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g., not using protective equipment)
Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
Manage, investigate, and record all incidents and accidents to determine causes and handle worker''s compensation claims.
Awareness training on policies, procedures and safe processes and practices to all staff.
Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
Management of company safety files.
