HEALTH & SAFETY OFFICER – WEST RAND (3902)

Qualifications:

• Grade 12/ equivalent
• SAMTRAC, SACPCMP registration would be an advantage
• Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety

 Experience and Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years’ proven experience as health and safety officer preferably in the production/workshop/steel industry.
• Computer literate
• Knowledge on relevant legislation (OSHA)
• Knowledge on ISO 45001 implementation and Internal auditing
• ISO 9001:2015 understanding and knowledge would be an added advantage
• Of sober habits
• Own reliable transport
• A valid driver’s license
• A stable work record and contactable references
• Self -motivated and ability to work in a team

Duties and responsibilities:

• Ensure the compliance of the company to the health and safety act.
• Developing, implementing, and improving the health and safety plans, programs, and procedures in the company.
• Ensuring compliance with the relevant health and safety legislation.
• Advise and instruct on various safety-related topics (noise levels, use of machinery etc.)
• Conduct safety inspections and risk assessment and enforce preventative measures.
• Review existing policies and measures and update according to legislation.
• Initiate and organize OHS training of employees and executives.
• Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity (e.g., not using protective equipment)
• Oversee installations, maintenance, disposal of substances etc.
• Stop any unsafe acts or processes that seem dangerous or unhealthy.
• Manage, investigate, and record all incidents and accidents to determine causes and handle worker''s compensation claims.
• Awareness training on policies, procedures and safe processes and practices to all staff.
• Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical information to upper management.
• Management of company safety files.
