POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

As eNtsa’s Materials Specialist the incumbent will be responsible for advising the group with respect to the physical and chemical behaviour of metals and alloys. The core purpose of the job is to test, investigate, analyse, examine and interpret results from which professional metallurgical / failure reports is compiled explaining the behaviour / performance of materials, components or assemblies evaluated.

As the Materials Specialist the incumbent will be responsible for all eNtsa matters pertaining to Materials Science/Engineering Materials and testing of component as undertaken by eNtsa. Scheduling, performing, directing and monitoring of work according to international standards, our customers, internal engineering standards or standard operating procedures and specifications. The incumbent is also responsible for assisting with the implementing, developing and maintaining systems and procedures to ensure compliance to ISO 17025 and SANAS accredited test methods.

The Materials Specialist interacts with clients on a daily basis, generating quotations, technical reports and expressing professional opinions with regard to e.g. behaviour of materials, components / weldments under stress, temperature, corrosion and/or environmental conditions. Other forms of work relate to research and development, manufacturing / production processes, quality assurance / material conformance and management of lab inventory, equipment and staff.

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Provides consulting services to clients (internal & external) as a materials specialist

•Investigate, test, analyse, examine and interpret results to compile professional reports explaining thebehaviour/performance of materials, components or assemblies evaluated

•Acts as a project leader in projects to provide technical guidance on a wide range of challenging problems

•Develop proposals and project budgets/quotations

•Plan and co-ordinate projects using project management principles

•Maintain a balance between technical solutions, time, cost and human resources

•Business development through new and existing industry contacts

•Building customer relationships through customer interaction & satisfaction

•Willing to assist in other disciplines and expand knowledge to composites and polymers

•Strong technical understanding and skills using own initiative and making sound decisions

•Ability to diagnose faults on equipment and implement / action the solution

•Work independently on various analytical work requested from the laboratory

•Reliable and competent with strong creativity

•Good communication and technical report writing skills

•Team player with positive attitude and self-discipline in an evolving environment, essential to working in a team

REQUIREMENTS

Required minimum education: MSc Material Science or BSc/B Eng Metallurgical Engineering (Physical)

Required minimum experience: At least 5 years’ experience working in a Materials Research and Analysis environment

Desirable Additional Education, Work Experience, Personal Qualities:

•Sound understanding of metallurgical principles. Ability to interpret materials and process data to formulate correctiveactions

•Experienced in materials testing techniques: Tensile and compressive, hardness, impact, bend, chemical analysis,corrosion testing, optical and scanning electron microscopy is strongly recommended

•Good understanding of budgeting and costing principles for materials and metallurgical services

•Good project management skills
