POSITION INFO:

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

The Group Specialist will be responsible for battery related materials testing and other types of materials in the field of chemistry. He/she will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining test methods within a chemical analytical laboratory according to an ISO 17025 quality system.

He/she must be able to lead laboratory staff and supervise interns and be responsible for the supervision of post-graduate student research projects. He/she must be able to execute projects from writing proposals, compiling results and communicating to the customer. The Group Specialist is expected to be self-motivated, professional and be able to work in a team

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

Project management:

• Liaison between clients and project team

• Documentation of projects according to ISO17025 standard.

• Scope projects, compile proposals, execute analysis, compile reports and communicate to the customer in a timeously and professional manner.

• Responsible for the direct supervision of laboratory staff.

Technical skills:

A good working knowledge of powder X-ray diffraction analysis and the use of related software such as Topas for thequantification of phases by Rietveld refinement.

•A good working knowledge of physical material analytical techniques like surface area by nitrogen adsorption, particle sizeby laser diffraction and X-ray florescence analysis.

•Demonstrative the working principles of a potentiostat and its use in electrochemical research.

•A good working knowledge in using a CT x-ray scanner for engineering and material purposes.

•A good working knowledge of the ISO17025 quality system and be able to apply the necessary skills in order to ensure theconfidence in the laboratory’s analytical results.

Research

•Provide supervision of post-graduate research students in the field of battery materials.

•Show mentorship capabilities to student interns and post graduate students.

•Manage, conduct and publish journal articles in chemistry related research fields.

CORE COMPETENCIES

•Has shown the ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge through research and publication.

•Experience in supervising research projects related to battery materials.

•Have demonstrated excellent communication skills in the form of written and verbal presentations.

REQUIREMENTS

•PhD in Chemistry or equivalent

•Three years or more relevant experience in related fields
