Group Safety Officer (Senior)

SUMMARY:
Ensure compliance with legislation, ensuring SOP’s are in place, assisting with the implementation, maintenance, certification, auditing of IMS based on ISO 9 001:2015, OHSAS 18 001: 2008, and ISO 14 001:2015 principles. Work within a multi-disciplinary team achieving overall HSE and Risk Management objectives.

POSITION INFO:

My client, based in Vereeniging, and a leader in the manufacturing industry, has an opportunity for a Group Safety Officer.  

We are looking for a pro-active Group Safety Officer with high attention to detail to join our team. The incumbent will be an experienced person who will be responsible to oversee SHEQ activities in all areas of responsibility, ensure compliance with applicable legislation, ensuring that SOP’s are in place and adhered to, and assisting with the implementation, maintenance, certification, and auditing of an Integrated Management System (IMS) based on ISO 9 001:2015, OHSAS-----: 2008 and ISO-----:2015 principles

The successful candidate will be required to work within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve the overall HSE and Risk Management objectives of the organisation. 

Key areas of responsibility:

Develop, implement and maintain site policies and procedures specific to the activities on-site/factory.

• Site inspections and reporting.
• Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
• Incident investigation
• Conduct training and raising awareness.
• Incident investigating, reporting, and management.
• COVID-19 management and reporting 
• Dotted line responsibility for Safety Officers across the group
• Management and compilation of DIFR stats
• Oversee the implementation of recommendations made in hygiene surveys and health risk assessments
• Oversee the implementation of recommendations made by the on-site clinic professionals both people related and non-people related
• Oversee COID reporting
• Update and implement an effective PPE program
• Coordinate Group Annual Safety Risk meetings and compile minutes

Minimum Criteria:

• National Diploma in Safety Management, BTech degree in Safety Management or a degree in a relevant field.

• Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role.  
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment. 
  • SAMTRAC qualification will be advantageous

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act No of 1993 and regulations.
• Strong administrative skills required. 
• Knowledge and experience in the implementation, maintenance, and auditing of an integrated management system (IMS) based on ISO 9001: 2015, ISO 14001: 2015, and OHSAS 18001: 2007. 
• Ability to plan his/her activities and to meet project deadlines.
• Good presentation and reporting writing skills.
• Computer literacy – good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
