General Accountant (Clearing and Forwarding)

SUMMARY:
Global shipping company seek a General Accountant with Clearing and Forwarding experience to control all accounting aspects of the South African branch. The nature of the business requires the occasional overtime work to be done. No remuneration will be paid for this overtime.

POSITION INFO:
Duties Include:

• Liaison between the Clearing and Forwarding and Accounts Departments.
• Assist the FM with follow-ups to Branch Manager''s requests in terms of day-to-day operational accounts queries.
• Assist the FM with ensuring company policies and procedures in terms of accounts activities are adhered to.
• Scrutinize and authorize all payments, ensuring adherence to Authorization Policies.
• Assist the FM to ensure funds are received prior to any disbursements being made.
• Monitor bank balances daily, both local and foreign currencies and do daily cash flows and reporting.
• Control Port Accounts (Recons and Payments)
• Fixed Assets Register.
• C&F accounts (recons, follow up with C&F on queries, dealing with payments).
• Branch Stats reports consolidation, checking, and verification.
• Debtors
• Creditors
• Disbursement accounts
• Cashbook
• Analytical and reconciliation
• Statistics
• General ledger and sound accounting knowledge

• Degree in Accounting
• Minimum 3 years experience in a similar position
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English
• Must be computer literate – excellent skills with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Teams. Power BI would be an advantage.
• Working knowledge of ACCPAC will be an advantage
• Working knowledge of CARGOWISE will be an advantage
• Must be able to work unsupervised.
• Must be able to work under pressure.
