SUMMARY:

POSITION INFO:
1. Game Ranger duties will include, but not be restricted to:
1.1. Transporting guests to and from the Main Gate as required;
1.2. Taking guests on drives, usually twice per day, but as requested by the guests;
1.3. Ensuring that the guests understand the rules of the bush, and they are kept safe at all times;
1.4. Maintaining a good bush knowledge – including flora, fauna, roads and conditions on Welgevonden;
1.5. Ensuring that the vehicle is kept clean and has sufficient fuel at all times;
1.6. Ensuring that the spare tyre on the vehicle is pumped and ready for use at all times;
1.7. Ensuring that the trailer is kept clean, with a fully pumped spare wheel, at all times;
1.8. Ensuring that the vehicle and the trailer are in good running order, and arranging for repairs/service as and when required;
1.9. Ensuring that all Welgevonden rules are complied with at all times;
1.9.1. Ensuring that the vehicle is equipped with blankets, rain ponchos, spotlights, etc, as appropriate for game drives;
1.9.2. Packing the vehicle and the trailer for guests;
1.9.3. Assisting guests with their luggage at the Lodge;
1.9.4. Packing a coffee basket or drinks cooler box, as required by the guests in the Lodge;
1.9.5. Ensuring that the Housekeeper is kept informed of the arrival time or return time of the guests.
2. Lodge Maintenance Duties, but not restricted to:
2.1. Pool maintenance, including keeping an adequate supply of pool cleaning chemicals and equipment on site;
2.2. Ensuring the electric fence is in good working order at all times;
2.3. Ordering and fetching (if necessary) of firewood for the Lodge;
2.4. Ordering and fetching (if necessary) of gas canisters for the stove in the main kitchen;
2.5. Attending to minor repairs and maintenance around the Lodge, as required;
2.6. Garden maintenance, including:
2.7. Watering;
2.8. Weeding;
2.9. Cutting the lawn;
2.9.1. Cutting back of shrubs, etc.;
2.9.2. Keeping the firebreak strip along the electric fence clear of vegetation;
2.9.3. Maintaining all fire-fighting equipment at the Lodge;
2.9.4. Any other minor gardening duties as may be required from time to time.
2.10. Co-ordinate, assist and report on 3rd party maintenance in conjunction with the appointed lodge Shareholder.
3. Assisting the Housekeeper with heavier work, including:
3.1. Sweeping all outside area of the lodge, including the Boma, the Viewing Platform, the main veranda and the verandas in front of the bedrooms;
3.2. Chopping wood for the fireplaces and the braai;
3.3. Laying fires, and cleaning fire places and the braai;
3.4. Moving of furniture, as and when required;
3.5. Removing and rehanging of curtains for washing;
3.6. Washing windows throughout the Lodge;
3.7. Removing spiderwebs from roof and roof timbers;
3.8. Driving the Housekeeper to Vaalwater when required to buy Lodge supplies;
3.9. Replacing light bulbs throughout the Lodge when needed.
4. General:
4.1. Removing or assisting with the safe removal of any unwanted animals, including snakes, baboons, from the Lodge;
4.2. Liaising with electricians, plumbers or other contractors as may be needed for routine repairs around the Lodge;
4.3. Communicating with Lodge members if required, to establish arrival and departure times, and making sure the housekeeper is informed;
4.4. Assisting the Reserve Management if required with duties such as firefighting;
4.5. Transporting the Housekeeper to and from the Main Gate, as may be required;
4.6. Keeping the staff quarters neat and tidy.
4.7. Assisting shareholders with any other reasonable requirement.
