Forklift Technician

A well-established lifting/materials handling equipment company is looking for a qualified and suitably experienced Forklift Technician for their operation in the Johannesburg area.

Responsibilities

• On-site repairs and inspections of Forklifts – Diesel and LPG
• Troubleshoot and diagnose Mechanical, Hydraulic and Electrical faults on Forklifts
• Effect repairs as may be required whether Mechanical, Hydraulic or electrical
• Perform basic maintenance such as tyres, grease/lube, Preventative Maintenance checks and servicing
• Identification, ordering and replacing of various spare parts that are required - example starter motors, alternators, actuators, hydraulic hoses, counters, oils/greases, filters
• Administration of all paperwork relating to the ordering of spares and maintenance of Forklifts
• Maintain a minimum parts inventory
• Document machine costs for fleet management and maintain an effective database of parts/maintenance for the respective Forklifts
• When required source parts/suppliers
• When applicable instruct/corrective action for abuse of equipment/Forklifts
• Strictly adhere to legal rules and regulations as well as vehicle safety device mechanisms
• Install/replace test gauges and sensors including thermocouples, readouts, lap counters

Requirements

• Grade 12
• Valid driver’s license
• Trade tested Diesel Mechanic would be beneficial and is preferred
• Minimum of 3 years working experience as a Forklift Mechanic – Diesel and LPG
• Wide knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting and repairs
• Ability to interpret electrical diagrams, repair manuals as well as schematics
• Good verbal, administrative and written communication skills
• Ability to make informed decisions and to work with minimal supervision
• Valid Forklift license
• Standby duties and responding to call-outs when required
