SUMMARY:
Bilnor Staffing Solutions' client is looking for a qualified Foreman (Earthworks) for position Nationwide. South African citizens be preferred.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric (Grade 12) with Mathematics and/or an NQF Level 4 qualification will be advantageous.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ relevant experience within a construction environment.
- Sound knowledge of construction processes and various construction trades.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings.
- Competence in setting out and leveling.
- Working knowledge of construction materials, plant, and equipment.
- Proven ability to coordinate and manage construction teams.
- Experience in staff management and an understanding of labour legislation.
- Strong knowledge of safety requirements, including occupational health and safety legislation.
The candidate will manage a specific contract or section of works, ensuring productivity, quality, and safety standards are met, and will coordinate with the Site Agent and General Foreman.
Key Responsibilities - Planning, Programming & Implementation:
- Leading and managing one or more construction teams by allocating tasks to team leaders, skilled workers, and general labourers.
- Coordinating and ensuring safe transportation of all labour to and from the workplace.
- Ensuring all team members understand their assigned tasks and providing on-site guidance or demonstrations where required.
- Maintaining a safe working environment by enforcing the use of prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with all safety procedures and instructions.
Complete and submit daily reports, timesheets, tally sheets, delivery notes, and all required documentation accurately and timeously.
- Take responsibility for the care, use, and safekeeping of small tools and minor plant, ensuring these are returned at the end of each working day.
- Maintain discipline, acceptable timekeeping, and workforce conduct in line with company standards.
- Apply and adhere to the approved Industrial Relations policies at all times.
- Ensure that the workforce has the correct and sufficient materials for daily operations, and arrange additional materials when necessary.
- Prevent material wastage and ensure that surplus materials are returned to stores.
- Remain actively present on-site, supervising multiple gangs where applicable, and monitor productivity and performance to meet required standards.
- Conduct quality control checks, including alignment, levels, density, and overall workmanship.
- Provide on-the-job training and mentorship to understudies, gang leaders, and equipment operators when required.
- Ensure full awareness and achievement of prescribed production rates for all activities under your control.
- Oversee plant and machinery to ensure proper maintenance by the Plant Company, adequate refuelling, safe operation, and adherence to start-up and shut-down procedures.
- Ensure that all personnel and plant are on-site at designated start times and remain until scheduled stopping times.
- Attend daily planning and cost meetings as required.
- Escalate concerns or request assistance from senior management when necessary.
SUB-CONTRACTORS
Ensure that subcontractors are provided with the necessary facilities and on-site support.
- Monitor and verify that subcontractors perform their work in accordance with required standards and specifications
SURVEY AND SETTING-OUT- Perform basic leveling using established benchmarks within the work area.
- Set out lines based on profiles and pegs provided by survey or engineering teams.
- Verify the dimensions and positioning of excavations, pipelines, manholes, formwork, cast-in items, anchor bolts, reinforcement, and related works.
MATERIALS- Request and requisition materials through the General Foreman as required.
- Monitor and control material wastage through regular on-site observation.
- Inspect and assess the quality of materials on-site to ensure compliance with required standards.
PRODUCTION CONTROL- Draws up daily programmes in the light of set weekly programmes (the day before) and asks for the necessary plant, labour, and materials.
- Implements the weekly programme agreed with the site agent and general foreman.
- Instructs carpenters on what formwork to use by means of sketches or discussion.
- Ensures weekly output required as well as pre-costing are achieved.
CLIENT AND CONTRACTUAL
Ensures that the work is being carried out to specification by application of knowledge of the specification.
- Liaise with the client’s representative on-site (at a certain level).
- Ensures that his workforce is working within the safety regulations.
STAFF AND LABOUR- Improves the quality of his workforce through instruction and passing on his knowledge.
