Position Overview:
The Fleet Controller is responsible for overseeing the operations of a fleet of vehicles, ensuring efficient routing, vehicle maintenance, driver management, and compliance with company policies and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operational Oversight
1.1. Plan, manage, and optimise line haul schedules to ensure timely deliveries and maximum resource utilisation.
1.2. Monitor the movement of vehicles, ensuring adherence to planned routes and schedules.
1.3. Collaborate with dispatchers, fleet controllers and branch managers to maintain seamless operations.
2. Fleet Management
2.1. Ensure the line haul fleet is well-maintained, compliance with regulations, and operationally efficient.
2.2. Coordinate with the workshop to schedule routine services and resolve vehicle breakdowns promptly.
2.3. Track and report on fleet utilisation and fuel efficiency to drive cost savings.
3. Compliance and Safety
3.1. Ensure all line haul operations comply with company policies, industry standards, and local and national transportation regulations.
4. Team Leadership
4.1. Lead, motivate, and manage line haul drivers and support staff to ensure high levels of performance and accountability.
4.2. Foster strong communication and teamwork across the operations department.
5. Customer and Stakeholder Communication
5.1. Work closely with customers to ensure service delivery meets or exceeds expectations.
5.2. Address and resolve service issues or delays in a timely and professional manner.
5.3. Provide regular updates and reports to senior management on line haul performance.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Grade 12 / Matric Qualification non-negotiable.
- Proven experience in transport industry, with a minimum of 3 years in fleet planning and control.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
