POSITION INFO:
Port Elizabeth-Fitter/Machinist
Reporting to the Area Supervisor
Purpose: To ensure the optimal mechanical performance of plant equipment and machinery through
preventative maintenance, fault diagnosis, repairs, and equipment upgrades. Play a critical role in
reducing downtime and maintaining productivity in the plant.
Minimum Requirements:
- Trade Test Certificate: Fitter or Fitter & Turner (Red Seal) – Essential
- Minimum 3–5 years’ post-apprenticeship experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably
- automotive or metal stamping)
- Solid experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
- Strong fault-finding and mechanical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics
- Working knowledge of automated machinery, conveyors, presses, and robotic systems
- Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and standby as required
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all mechanical equipment, including presses, feeders, conveyors, and robots
- Attend to mechanical breakdowns quickly and effectively to minimise downtime
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair faults in hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems
- Replace or repair defective parts using machine tools, welding, and hand tools
- Maintain records of repairs and preventative maintenance using job cards or CMMS systems
- Collaborate with the electrical maintenance team during fault-finding or installations
- Assist in the setup, installation, and commissioning of new equipment
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment, complying with OHS requirements
- Monitor and maintain critical spares and report shortages or material needs
- Provide mentorship or support to maintenance assistants or apprentices when required
