SUMMARY:
Southern Oil Pty Ltd, an established company and market leader in manufacturing Canola oil and related products in the retail, food services, and bulk sectors, has the following exciting career opportunity in Swellendam.

POSITION INFO:

Short Summary:

The primary responsibility of this position is to carry out routine and preventative maintenance to all allocated plant equipment, machinery, and facilities.
This person will be responsible for a team and its activities and will need to ensure all work complies with industry standards.

Responsibilities:

• Maintenance
  • Maintain plant equipment, for example, pumps, steam lines, pneumatic components, and
  • machinery.
  • Perform plant maintenance during shutdowns period which is not the standard working hours.
  • Understand and interpret new drawings and manuals in the Engineering Department.
  • Install new machines and equipment as and when needed.
  • Respond to emergency machine breakdowns throughout the plant.
• Inspections
  • Conduct regular inspections on plant equipment according to the checklist and a preventive maintenance plan.
• Teamwork
  • Give feedback to the Maintenance Workshop Manager on breakdowns.
  • Attend to all relevant breakdowns during the responsible standby period.
  • Manage Artisan Assistant according to the HR policies and Disciplinary Code.
• Procedures
  • Perform tasks according to Health and Safety procedures and Food Safety Procedures.
  • Complete DMS Work orders and Work order book to keep a record of all work completed.
  • Apply for parts by making use of the requisition procedure.
  • Follow workshop housekeeping rules and implement the 5s Strategy.
• Culture
  • Ensure to adhere to the company values.
  • Strive to achieve results on the individual performance scorecards.
  • Maintain a safety standard throughout work.

Key Competencies:

Education and Experience

• Qualified Trade Certificate in Fitting
• A valid driver’s license
• A minimum of 3-5 years of plant maintenance
• Experience in a manufacturing environment
• Experience in food manufacturing is an advantage

Technical Skills

• Computer literate
• Must be able to read technical/ mechanical drawing
• Experience in ARC, TIG, and MIG welding
• Good interpersonal and negotiation skills
• Good understanding and knowledge of mechanical seals
• Good understanding and knowledge of pump maintenance
• Good understanding and knowledge of pneumatic systems
• Good understanding and knowledge of steam components and repairments
• Good understanding and knowledge of auger and conveyor systems
