POSITION INFO:

Fire Detection Serviceman (SAQCC) – Epping - R15,000 per month negotiable

 

 

To service, maintain, repair and install any fire detection, fire extinguishing, nurse call, intercom, access control, CCTV, public address and any other system installed and to supervise all testing technicians and assistants appointed to assist in the execution of these tasks.

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • To service and accept responsibility for the servicing of systems.
  • Regular feedback on assigned projects to Management.
  • Communication between Management and the assistants of their service team.
  • Supervision of all the assistants in their servicing team to ensure that they perform their duties in the most efficient and effective manner on the site where work is carried out. 
  • To assist, install and accept full responsibility for the installation of systems assigned to them by management.
  • To continuously further their own knowledge in respect to the systems they service and install.
  • To communicate and have regular liaison with Management and support staff with regards to requirements for servicing or installations of systems.
  • Collection of materials from suppliers, clients or any other party as instructed by Management.
  • To communicate and have regular liaison with the client on each site assigned to them. 
  • To look after and take responsibility for all vehicles, tools and equipment assigned to them.
  • Assist with any general maintenance around the office, on company vehicles or on a customer’s site as instructed by management.
  • To assist with and attend team building exercises or functions assigned to their team.
  • To assist with the preparation, installation and maintenance of the piping division.
  • To assist in creating a safe working environment for himself, assistants and other contractors or clients on site.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

 

  • Commission Gas protected rooms
  • Responsible for the training of clients on the operation of systems installed or serviced. This also includes, but is not limited to, making the client aware of the positioning of all equipment as well as explaining user procedures in case of alarm or fault.
  • Servicing of systems
  • Liquid Level Testing of extinguishing agent containers as per manufacturer’s instructions
  • Room Integrity Testing of gaseous protected rooms as per manufacturer’s instructions
  • To communicate (report) immediately with Management on any shortcomings deriving from servicing or installations of systems that directly affects the operation and design of a client’s system.
  • Report to Management each day to receive instructions.
  • Report to Management as needed during the day to inform of progress or any shortcomings of work allocated to them for the day.
  • To ensure each instruction given to them by Management is understood and documented.
  • Any corrections as well as the confirmation of accuracy of any drawings supplied to them for services and installations of systems. Any changes are to be given and reported immediately to Management and Support Staff.
  • Handing over of required documents
  • Check scheduling on a daily basis in order to adequately prepare for future scheduled work.
  • To communicate progress of work to Management and ensuring that work is completed within the planned and scheduled periods by their team(s). 
  • Report important issues that may influence their assistant’s moral and/or productivity to management immediately.
  • Report any information from management to their assistants such as change in work procedures, country work, overtime work, etc.
  • Report immediately to management if assistants cannot or will not adhere to their or managements instructions.
  • Work done by the assistant(s) must be continuously evaluated to ensure neatness and correctness of work. 
  • Assistance and guidance must be provided to assistants in the execution of their tasks.
  • Delegation of specific tasks, responsibilities and work to their assistants in the team.
  • Improvement of assistants through on-site skills development to enable each member of the team  to perform at their full potential and ability.
  • On-site training of their assistants in practical fault finding and repairs of faults during the servicing or installation of the system(s).
  • Maintaining discipline with the assistants in their servicing team.  The responsibility includes the enforcement of the Code of Conduct, Disciplinary Code, dress code and other conditions as set out in the Policies and Service Conditions of the Company. Any issues regarding this are to be reported to Management immediately.
  • Recommendations to management of any external training they feel their assistants are ready to attend which could benefit their team.
  • Installation of systems

Registration with the SAQCC as:

  • Serviceman in Fire detection
  • Commissioner / Serviceman in Gas Suppression

 

Experience:

 

  • Driver’s Licence
  • At least three years in the installation of electronic systems, cabling, conduit, trunking and the commissioning of various electronic systems is required.  Must be able to demonstrate skills and knowledge

 

  • At least 6 months experience assisting a SAQCC recognised serviceman in servicing of gas suppression and fire detection systems.
  • A proven leadership role within an installation team is also required.
  • Has serviced, maintained and is efficient at fault finding of stand-alone and networked Analogue Addressable Fire Detection and Alarm Systems.
  • Has serviced, maintained and is efficient at fault finding of conventional fire alarm and Detection Systems
  • Has serviced, maintained and is efficient at fault finding of gas extinguishing systems.
  • Has serviced, maintained and is efficient at fault finding of water mist systems.
