SUMMARY:
This is not an opportunity that comes along often – A leading, international wholesaler of firearms, ammunition, related hunting products, and outdoor clothing, are in search of an innovative Financial Accountant to join their team. The South African operations consists of three business entities, so the incumbent must be experienced with inter-company reconciliations and Forex exposure would certainly be advantageous, as the weaponry and ammunition are mostly imported from other continents.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Job and Company Description:
This is a global business, and the successful candidate will operate with some very experienced, capable and innovative people; the best in the industry. The role is accountable for all aspects of financial accounting in the businesses in South Africa and will report directly into the Finance Manager. The ideal candidate is an analytical problem-solver who is energetic and very organised. Experience in importing, foreign exchange, costing, warehousing and distribution would be an advantage.

As the Financial Accountant you will be responsible for:

Accurate and timely preparation of the monthly accounts for three businesses
Monthly reconciliations of all general ledger accounts and tie up to the subsidiary ledgers
VAT returns
All employee-related tax and statutory government returns and associated payments and reconciliations
Preparation of payroll and associated GL entries and filings
Assist the FM with budgeting and reporting against budget
Monthly analysis of costs and assisting the FM with cost reductions
Cash: reconciling all bank accounts in the GL to the bank statements
Foreign exchange: dealing with banks and setting up foreign payments with relevant paperwork
Authorising bank payments
Internal controls: ensuring that controls are in place to protect company assets
Insurance: preparation of all annual declarations and supporting workings
Stock management: preparing and arranging for the annual stock takes with the auditors
Providing relevant and accurate stock information to managers
Banks: preparation of documentation necessary for the bank reviews
SARS and SARB documentation and compliance: assisting the FM
Audits: assisting the FM with information requirements for the annual audit, and responding to audit queries
CAPEX / financing: accounting for assets, including any leases, or financing arrangements
Collating and sending any foreign holding company information requests, including transactions on related parties and inter-company transactions

Job Experience and Skills Required:

BCom Accounting with 5 years experience in a commercial role or in Business Services in an accounting firm
Ability to deal with large volumes of work
An analytical problem-solver who is energetic and very organised
Experience in importing, foreign exchange, costing, warehousing and distribution would be an advantage
Prior use of Sage Evolution will be a big advantage
