Field Scientist - Crop Protection

SUMMARY:

An established international manufacturer of agricultural chemicals requires the above to manage and lead the development of new and existing products that could result in successful marketing and sales of profitable products.

POSITION INFO:

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have a B.Sc. Degree in Agriculture with majors in plant pathology, entomology or agronomy
• Minimum 2 years product development experience will be required
• Above-average communication skills, specifically in English and Afrikaans, with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders of all levels, including farmers, will be required
• A good understanding of application and evaluation methodology is essential
• Must be able to deliver formal and field presentations.

 
The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Planning, executing, analysing and reporting on trials to achieve registrations for key products which will contribute to the future profitability and growth of the business.
• Executing product demonstration trials to support the Marketing and Sales strategy, New Product Introductions (NPI’s) and sales promotion trials.
• Building and strengthening relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Striving to achieve a 100% success rate of allocated trials in terms of quality and on-time delivery.
• Participating in and contributing to protocol management
• Managing all agronomical aspects of the demonstration trials from E2E.
• Arranging demonstration trial visits with FTE and as agreed with internal and external stakeholders.
• Arranging demonstration days to train internal and external stakeholders.
• Reporting of trial results in systems or as required, and also observations/results not specified in the protocol.
• Identifying problems, opportunities and threats.
• Providing technical assistance to sales and marketing.
• Validating results and giving recommendations / insights on performance of tested products and solutions at single trial level.
• Following up on external trials and on the ground interaction with 3rd parties.
• Ensuring equipment and store maintenance.
• Establishing good relationships with all internal and external stakeholders, e.g. distributers, agents, growers, industry related organisations, etc.
• Keeping abreast of market, trade and competitor activities in order to adapt to changing environments.
• Taking ownership of technical expertise per product and crop.
• Ensuring that all operations under direct control comply with Health, Safety & Environmental policies and guidelines as well as any other relevant or statutory policies.
• Reporting HSE observations and near misses together with Status reports.

Salary package is highly negotiable depending on experience
