SUMMARY:
Bridging Digital Divide (BDD) is a black-owned ICT infrastructure and telecoms company that provides structured cabling and fibre and wireless networks to public and private clients in South Africa. We are looking for a Fibre Technician to be based at our Warehouse in Centurion Pretoria.

POSITION INFO:

Purpose of the job:

Perform detailed Site scoping, Pre-Testing and create BOQ for quotations. Arrange Site access for installations. Manage Technicians and Supervise installations as per Tshwane specification. Splicing, Testing and Complete documentation for Billing.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend Scoping’s and Create BOQ for Quotation and Take pictures
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot Fibre Cables and find Breaks for repairs
  • Arrange Material with stores as per BOQ for the Contractor.
  • Coordinate with the internal Teams for purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently
  • Ensure safety measures are taken before starting to work, during progress of work and after completing the job
  • Inform Management regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions and/or taking appropriate action and complying with safety regulations
  • Coordinate tools of trade including issuing, usage, safekeeping and safe returning of tools that used
  • Responsibly and safely drive to jobsite when required to
  • Gear up in appropriate work clothing or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Sign off and Handover all completed Sites with COT RDD
  • Submit all Handover documentation to BDD admin for Billing.

 

 

Skills

  • Proven ability to install, terminate & test single mode & multi-mode fibre optical cables
  • Industry and manufacturer specific experience and/or certifications
  • Comprehension of terminology pertaining to installation & service of cabling infrastructure for Fibre Networks
  • Extensive  knowledge of Tshwane Cabling standards
  • The ability to accurately read and interpret test results
  • Must know the universal communications colour codes

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

Formal Education

  • Grade 12/Matric
  • Relevant Certificate or tertiary qualification in a technology services/technical discipline
  • FOA Certification will be an added advantage

 

Professional/Technical Certification

  • Relevant Fibre, UTP, Access Control and Alarm certification
  • A+ / N+ or Microsoft Certified Engineers (MCSE) / Relevant qualification

Other minimum requirements

  • Valid driver’s licence
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Frequent travel to jobsite will be required (must be willing to travel)
  • Must have knowledge and skill in the proper use of hand and power tools
