SUMMARY:

An established distributor of Agricultural products is seeking an experienced Farm and Packhouse Manager to manage the packing facility, operational teams and processes, ensuring related quality and protocol measures, including global accreditations are adhered to.

JOB DESCRIPTION:


Minimum requirements for the role:

  • Must have a tertiary qualification in Agriculture or related
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Packhouse Manager/Farm Manager role will be required
  • Production management experience is essential
  • Relevant farming experience in vegetables will be an advantage
  • Must have mechanical aptitude of packhouse equipment and maintenance requirements
  • Proven knowledge of BRC, HACCP, and Global Gap Accreditation is essential
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, own car and be willing to travel a short distance between the farm and packhouse

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Driving the implementation of the business unit strategy to ensure overall success of the business.
  • Setting and maintaining correct sorting and packing targets and standards to maximise net farming income.
  • Designing and implementing Packing Programmes.
  • Implementing maintenance management protocols.
  • Developing and improving systems to ensure the creation and implementation of a strategy designed to grow the business.
  • Ensuring optimal utilisation of all resources, capacity and costs.
  • Designing and implementing more efficient procedures and processes.
  • Computing the quantities, qualities and types of materials required by production programmes. 
  • Monitoring and evaluating service delivery of suppliers.     
  • Directing, supervising and evaluating the work activities of professional clerical, service, maintenance, and other personnel. 
  • Aligning the business unit strategy with the organisational strategy, goals and objectives.
  • Managing budgets and cost drivers (e.g. labour, packing material, chemicals, overtime, tipping cost etc)
  • Ensuring finance policy & procedures are complied with in the operational packhouse.
  • Reviewing monthly operational costs compared to plan, and introducing measures if parameters are exceeded.
  • Controlling expenditure and ensuring the efficient use of resources, including the controlling of chemical stock and overseeing the mixture thereof.       
  • Understanding all performance and quality measurements.
  • Assisting in the establishment of performance management systems.
  • Measuring Production (Productivity) and reviewing packhouse performance on daily, monthly and annual basis.
  • Monitoring yearly sales performance of branches to ensure long term business goals and objectives are met.
  • Ensuring overall service delivery and quality management
  • Oversee daily operations of the business unit
  • Responsible for maintaining good quality according to packing standards.
  • Monitoring correct packaging material, correct PLU, fruit quality packed, packing patterns used and carton weights.          
  • Managing staff and maintaining high levels of discipline.
  • Performing supervisory responsibilities complying with organizations policies and applicable laws.
  • Conducting and facilitating necessary disciplinary processes.
  • Identifying and assisting in training requirements of packhouse personnel.
  • Measuring and reviewing performance with individuals and teams against set objectives quarterly and annually.
  • Overseeing the selection, training and performance of staff.
  • Managing staff members by rewarding and disciplining staff members, addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Fostering a healthy Teamwork environment.
 
Salary package, including benefits, are highly negotiable depending on experience gained
