Farm Manager Horticulturist

SUMMARY:
Farm Manager - Horticulturist with Growing and Propagation knowledge and experience with growing flowers or the likes relating to commercial farming. Large scale experience ideally with Cannabis will be preferred yet not essential. Position based in Lesotho with accommodation in Ficksburg.

POSITION INFO:

Your responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to:

• Manage all phases of plant growth (propagation, growing, flowering, harvest under your supervision and processing under QA supervision).
• Managing staff under you and working in very close collaboration with QA at your level.
• Application of fertilizer and plant protection products as per SOP’s.
• Troubleshoot and correct nutrient deficiencies or toxicities in plants and soil.
• Execute Integrated Pest Management program to manage pests and disease.
• Build the grow team and train and schedule daily work assignments for assistant growers
• Supervise preventive maintenance and basic repair of growing equipment via farm foreman.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow SOP’s (Standard operating procedure) all duties are governed by established SOP’s.
• Ability to work within a team.
• Excellent written and oral communication, generating weekly and seasonal cultivation reports.
• Excellent attention to detail and record keeping abilities.
• Always ensure cleanliness of facility.
• Keep daily records for production accuracy and compliance with all laws via QA team.
• Budget, cost, and perform general administrative duties.
• Comply with all regulations, audits, and inspections of grow facility.

 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture
• Master’s Degree in Agriculture
• Horticulture or related tertiary education
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in overall farm management and working in teams.
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a commercial GAP farming environment
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in working in a highly regulated environment, food safety preferred
• Proficiency in MS Office
• Experience with Netafim Fertikit fertigation system and related activities.
• High level of business acumen
