POSITION INFO:

An estimator''''s job is to determine the potential costs of a project, including labor, materials, and equipment, by analyzing plans, specifications, and other project documentation, and then prepare detailed reports and bids for project stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Analysis:

Estimators analyze project plans, specifications, and other relevant documents to identify all potential costs associated with a project.
Material Sourcing and Pricing:

They research and obtain quotes from suppliers and subcontractors for materials, equipment, and labor.
Labor Cost Estimation:
Budget Preparation:

Bid Preparation:

Estimators prepare bids and proposals for projects, ensuring that the company''''s bids are competitive and accurate.

Project Monitoring:

They monitor project costs throughout the project lifecycle, tracking actual costs against estimated costs and identifying potential cost overruns.

Risk Assessment:

Estimators assess potential risks and challenges that could impact project costs and timelines.

Collaboration:

They work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate project specifications and cost estimates.

Data Analysis:

Estimators analyze data collected from job sites, vendors, and other stakeholders to compile detailed cost information.

Report Generation:

They prepare detailed reports or bids for submission to project stakeholders.

Skills and Qualifications:

Strong Analytical Skills:

Estimators must be able to analyze data, identify trends, and make accurate cost predictions.

Mathematical Proficiency:

They need strong mathematical skills to perform calculations and analyze costs effectively.

Communication Skills:

They must be able to communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.

Knowledge of Construction/Manufacturing Processes:

A good understanding of construction or manufacturing processes is essential for accurate cost estimation.
