SUMMARY:
Environmental Officer (EE) Kokstad Must be Registered with SACPCMP or SACNASP as Environmental Officer

POSITION INFO:

Description of Position The Environmental Officer is in charge of running environmental issues that range from advocacy, awareness and event organising to drafting environmental policies. The general job of an environmental officer entails evaluating, planning and implementing environmental issues.

Qualification, Experience and Technical Requirements

  • Accredited Degree / Diploma qualification in Environmental or Natural Sciences or equivalent
  • 2 Years of experience within a similar role in construction or other environmental regulatory field.
  • Registered with SACPCMP or SACNASP
  • Knowledge of the National Environmental Management Act; Environmental Conservation Act; Waste Act; Occupational Health and Safety Act, National Traffic Act; Municipal by-laws and company policies and procedures that will need to be followed.
  • Knowledge of construction processes, equipment, materials and products
  • Understanding and implementing of ISO 9000, 14000 and ISO 45001
  • Drivers Licence essential

Special Knowledge / Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook
  • Excellent command of English language (including spelling, grammar and punctuation), Xhosa will be an advantage
  • Ability to deal responsibly with confidential information
  • Project Management Skills - Planning, organizing, prioritizing and time management skills are important
  • Proficient in analysing information to provide solutions and Reports – attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop and control the environmental management and conservation of the natural environment of the project in accordance with the applicable legislation.
  • Liaise with relevant role stakeholders with relation to the management of sensitive and protected areas
  • Initiate environmental Management systems / programmes / plans and ensure compliance
  • Ensure audits on above systems / programmes or plans and that is aligns with the objectives of the project
  • Provide awareness and training interventions to employees and the community at large 
  • Manage all administrative requirements, record keeping and reporting deadlines 
  • Keep abreast of any development or changes to legislation.
