Environmental Officer

SUMMARY:
To protect employees’ health and safety by making sure risks in the workplace are properly controlled and to ensure employers comply with all aspects of health and safety.

POSITION INFO:

 1.       Summary of key responsibilities

•  Conduct internal environmental audits (including the drafting of non-conformance / non-compliance registers).
• Conduct off-taker / third party compliance audits.
• Assist with the implementation of the internal EMS throughout South Africa and Mozambique.
• Conduct internal EMS audits.
• Develop, update and maintain the aspects and impacts assessments Group Wide.
• Collect needs of Interested and Affected Parties as applicable to the internal EMS.
• Assist SHEQ Systems Specialist with the collation of group wide environmental data for inclusion in the Parent Company’s Annual / Integrated Report.
• Assist sites throughout the Group with the formulation and achievement of environmental objectives.

 2.       Critical skills

•  Sound working knowledge of South African Environmental Legal Requirements.
• Environmental Management System (EMS) implementation and internal auditing.
• Experience in the environmental management sector (3 – 5 years’ sector specific experience).
• Experience in the conducting of environmental legal compliance audits (general Environmental Legal Requirements, Waste Management Licenses, Environmental Authorisations, Permits, Water Use Licenses and Environmental Management Plans).
• Excellent report writing skills.

 3.       Minimum educational requirements

•  BSc Environmental Management / Environmental Science or similar discipline (from a reputable tertiary institution).

• ISO 14001:2015 Lead Auditor Certificate.

 4.       Beneficial requirements

• BSc (Hons) or MSc Environmental Management / Environmental Science or similar discipline.
