Durban and Cape Town
SRK Consulting’s Durban (x1) and Cape Town (x1) offices are offering 12-month internship opportunities to one suitably qualified candidate per region, who hold relevant degrees and have a strong interest in pursuing a career in environmental geology.
POSITION INFO:
The ideal candidates will be trained to conduct fieldwork and site investigations, manage and interpret environmental data, and prepare technical reports.
Key responsibilities will entail participating in projects primarily focused around the investigation and remediation of contaminated land, including but not limited to monitoring (soil, water, and air), and conducting environmental site contamination assessments and groundwater studies for industrial and mining sites.
Remuneration for these positions are aligned with the level expected for an internship role. The successful candidate will work under the guidance of Senior Management within the Business Unit.
Experience and Skills:
The candidate must:
- Hold an Honours degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry or Soil Science.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the MS Office suite, particularly MS Word and MS Excel.
- Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Have a desire for learning and professional growth.
- Be willing to work across disciplines and developing a diverse skill set.
- Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and provide support where required.
- Be resourceful, proactive, and capable of working independently.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
- Have some knowledge of environmental legislation.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication, reporting, research, and data analysis skills.
- Have experience conducting groundwater modelling and/or using GIS.
- Have a genuine passion for environmental work.
Applicants must be South African citizens, have a valid driver’s license, and be willing to travel. Candidates based in Durban and Cape Town will be given preference. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview.
