An Enrolled Nurse (Fixed Term Contract till 30/9/2021) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium's MatCH Research Unit (MRU) in Durban - Kwa-Zulu Natal.
POSITION INFO:
Background
MRU is a division of the Wits Health Consortium under the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of the University of the Witwatersrand. We are committed to supporting the millennium development goals aimed at gender equity, maternal and child health and combatting HIV.
These guide our work which focuses on sexual and reproductive health with research being conducted in microbicides, barrier methods, service integration, and contraception. We conduct clinical, behavioural, operations and implementation science research and support health systems strengthening including capacity building and technical support.
Main purpose of the job
- To provide specific support to the research team by obtaining a medical history from study participants, perform a physical examination and do vital signs
- Give medication as per study protocol
- Give education on HIV and health-related issues
- Offer HIV counselling and Testing
Location
- MRU Durban - Commercial City Research Site
Key performance areas
- Clinical Procedures
- Provide pre and post HIV test counselling to potential study participants
- Participate in regular supervision and debriefing meetings
- Conduct basic health education presentations
Required minimum education and training
- Grade 12
- Certificate in Enrolled Nursing/Auxilliary Nursing
- Proficiency in English and Zulu
Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities
- HIV Counselling Certificate
- Confidentiality
- Experience in a health care/research environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Thorough with good attention to detail
- Able to work to deadlines
- Self-motivated and able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Experience in working with research studies will be an advantage
- Ability to work well in a team and independently
Required minimum work experience
- Minimum 1-year experience as an Enrolled Nurse or Nurse Auxilliary
