SUMMARY:
Engineering Assistant (Mining Industry)
Our client, a well-established mining organisation and prominent producer within the Platinum Group Metals (PGMs) and chrome mining sector, is seeking a dedicated Engineering Assistant to support engineering and maintenance operations on site. The successful candidate will assist artisans, engineers, and maintenance teams in ensuring the efficient operation, servicing, and upkeep of mining plant and equipment within a safe and productive environment.
POSITION INFO:
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
- N2 Engineering qualification or relevant technical qualification will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 2–4 years’ experience in a mining, plant, engineering, or heavy industrial environment.
- Previous experience assisting artisans, fitters, electricians, or engineering teams on site.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical maintenance processes.
- Knowledge of mining safety standards and regulations.
- Ability to work shifts, overtime, and within demanding operational environments.
- Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Physically fit and capable of working in a mining environment.
Roles and Responsibilities:Engineering & Maintenance Support- Assist engineering teams with daily maintenance and repair activities.
- Support breakdown maintenance and routine inspections on mining equipment and plant machinery.
Equipment & Tools Handling- Prepare and maintain tools, equipment, and materials required for maintenance tasks.
- Ensure tools and work areas are kept clean, safe, and organised.
Operational Assistance- Assist with installation, servicing, and dismantling of mechanical and electrical components.
- Provide general support during shutdowns and planned maintenance activities.
Safety & Compliance- Adhere to mining health, safety, and environmental regulations at all times.
- Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment defects to supervisors.
Documentation & Reporting- Assist with maintenance records, checklists, and job cards.
- Provide feedback to supervisors regarding maintenance progress and equipment conditions.
