Electronic Systems Engineer

SUMMARY:
Currently seeking a strong Electronic Engineer in the JHB region to join a team of Engineers that specializes in the underground mining environment. This candidate has to have underground mining exposure.

POSITION INFO:

Job & Company Description:

The main duties of the Electronic Engineer will be to work closely with distributors, OEMs, direct customers, and the Engineering team to provide support for pre-installation, installation, and post-installation of all their products. Other duties will include but are not limited to:

• Assisting distributors and customers with technical support as needed, both at the mine site and over the phone, to the point of resolution
• Assist with development, manufacturing/assembly, and support of new products specific to the local market, including the Cap Lamp Locator and new atmospheric monitoring equipment
• Learning and staying current on relevant South Africa regulations pertaining to products and the application thereof
• Organizing and directing customer support (trouble) calls, and investigating to the point of resolution
• Pre-sales activities including product demonstration, machine installation viability, product quoting, etc.
• Installation activities including liaising with customers, distributors, and partners; project management as necessary; installation assistance for distributors as necessary
• Post-sales activities including customer visits to gauge satisfaction, and post-installation follow-up for quality control

Additional Duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Customer and distributor training
• Providing feedback to developers on existing prototype products & assist developers with in-mine testing needed for future products
• Providing feedback on distributors
• Increasing customer satisfaction
• Attend and possibly present at industry-related events such as DMR, SACMA, SACEA meetings, and trade shows
• Other related tasks as required by the business

Education:

• BSc/B Eng. Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Degree

Job Experience & Skills Required:

• 2+ years of experience in an underground mining environment
• Experience with underground mine production machinery and auxiliary equipment
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills
• Safety oriented
• Positive attitude & team player
• Quality minded, resourceful, and dependable
• Excellent interpersonal communication & computer skills
• The Systems Engineer is required to possess or obtain a statutory driver’s license and must keep in good standing at all times
• The Systems Engineer is required to possess or obtain and an internationally approved passport and must keep in good standing at all times
• The Systems Engineer is required to obtain and keep in good standing all certifications as required by customers in order to perform work on customer premises

Travel

The Systems Engineer will be required to travel throughout Southern Africa to various locations such as, but not limited to the following: Headquarters, distributor locations, customer locations, and potential customer locations. Trips to neighboring countries, Australia, and their headquarters in the US as necessary will also be required as necessary. Opportunities for other International travel may be available and/or required in the future.
