POSITION INFO:
The Editor will collaborate with academic staff to design and develop learning material for use in print, on the Faculty’s Moodle-based LMS, online, and e-readers.
The Editor is expected to exercise good judgment to help make the course content clear and meaningful to the learner. The Editor also edits instructional content for delivery in online modules ensuring that it adheres to accepted conventions of English grammar and usage, Faculty standards and preferred style.
The ideal candidates are critical thinkers who skilfully identify and articulate weaknesses in learning material organization and writing, adopt a coaching/mentoring role with authors and firmly but diplomatically communicate with authors.
They work both independently and in a team environment, and reliably meet deadlines.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
✓ Project management of the production of learning material
✓ Train, advise and provide support to academic staff in relevant learning material development
✓ Advise and support freelance editors
✓ Provide guidelines to authors and other editors for the development of learning material
✓ Ensure consistency and quality of all learning material in line with relevant Faculty of Education guidelines and checklists
✓ Edit learning material to ensure appropriateness and accuracy
✓ Proofread and evaluate material for compliance with policies, guidelines, style and tone
✓ Collaborate and communicate timeously with academic staff to achieve agreed deadlines for the release of learning material
✓ Train and advise colleagues on copyright issues
✓ Identify areas for improvement and develop best practice in the development of learning material
✓ Attend relevant meetings
✓ Fulfil all reasonably expected administrative functions relating to post and as requested by line manager and MANCO
Minimum requirements
✓ A relevant bachelor’s degree (or equivalent);
✓ Three (or more) years of editing experience in education;
✓ Experience in academic content design and development;
✓ Microsoft Word processing skills (or a willingness to commit to learning the necessary skills)
Qualifications
✓ A relevant bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)

✓ A Masters qualification
✓ Experience working with a Learning Management System
