SUMMARY:
Role Purpose
To design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and technical documentation in line with industry and company standards. The role supports product innovation, manufacturing efficiency, and operational excellence within the Draughting Office.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
- Generate detailed mechanical models, assemblies, manufacturing, casting, and sheet metal drawings.
- Prepare CAD files for CNC machines and other production equipment.
- Produce visual materials for marketing use, including brochures, catalogues, and manuals.
- Assist in drafting installation, operation, and maintenance manuals, user and assembly guides, and other end-user documentation.
- Ensure strict adherence to industry standards, codes, and internal design protocols.
Process & Documentation- Maintain accurate and organised records of all design files and technical documentation.
- Manage hard copy and electronic filing on the company server.
- Contribute to ISO compliance, including documentation, process improvements, and workflow optimisation.
- Participate in writing procedures and improving tooling and job flows for better operational performance.
Research & Collaboration- Stay up to date with latest industry technologies, innovations, and materials.
- Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers, and third-party stakeholders on product improvements and technical queries.
- Contribute ideas and feedback in technical brainstorming and project discussions.
Ad-hoc Support- Assist with other design-related or operational tasks as required by management.

Role Requirements
Qualifications
- Matric / Grade 12 (essential).
- Certificate in 3D Designing – preferably SolidWorks (essential).
- Additional certifications in Project Management, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical training will be advantageous.
Experience- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience within a mechanical engineering environment.
- Proficiency in 3D design within SolidWorks and PDM (essential).
- Experience with valves, hydraulics, piping, and fabrication/manufacturing processes.
- Experience in water reticulation, steel manufacturing, or related engineering industries advantageous.
Skills & Competencies- Proficient in SolidWorks and PDM; working knowledge of Visualize.
- Strong understanding of valves, hydraulics, and piping systems.
- Knowledge of mechanical design standards, materials, and industry codes.
- Advanced computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, CAD systems).
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and technical writing skills.
- Excellent planning, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
- Ability to work independently or within a team under pressure.
