POSITION INFO:

 

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

 

The purpose of this post is to direct, manage and facilitate effective student counselling, development programmes, and service delivery (including career, academic, and psychosocial development, peer help, and student transition) to Nelson Mandela University communities in accordance with best practices and the mission of Emthonjeni Student Wellness, LT Collab and Nelson Mandela University regarding student success in higher education.

 

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

 

 

  • To direct strategic and transformational leadership and vision for Emthonjeni Student Wellness (ESW)
  • To develop, maintain and implement policies and procedures related to best practices with respect to student counselling programmes and services, underpinned by research to guide and evaluate the impact of such services
  • To direct and manage the development, ongoing refinement and implementation of individual and group:
    • Developmental, preventative and remedial programmes and services to students
    • Support to staff to facilitate student learning and success
    • Community engagement programmes in selected areas of career, academic and psychosocial development
  • To manage the financial and human resources of ESW

To communicate and liaise with management, student success services, faculties, and students regarding the programmes and services provided by ESW and to network with external partners.

 

CORE COMPETENCIES

 

 

  • An in-depth understanding of and experience in student counselling, career and development programmes and services with regard to student access, success and throughput imperatives, quality assurance, and best practice
  • An in-depth understanding of the counselling, psychosocial, career, academic and developmental needs of students
  • Possess strong strategic leadership, management, and networking skills
  • Possess strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Have proven attributes of transparency, integrity, and teamwork

 

 

REQUIREMENTS

 

 

  • Candidates should have at least a Master''s degree but preferably a Doctoral degree in Psychology with a focused research interest
  • Must be registered with the HPCSA as a counselling, clinical or educational psychologist
  • At least 6 - 10 years relevant experience in which competence has been gained
