SUMMARY:

We are currently partnering with one of the Country’s biggest Diamond Mining Company’s, in order to recruit, retain and acquire the best possible candidates for their new Underground Mining Project

In order to fulfill these permanent mining/engineering vacancies, we will need the following

Diesel Mechanic

POSITION INFO:

The purpose of this position

• Is to maintain Light Delivery, Service vehicles and Plant machines, e.g. Toyota LDV’s, Land Cruisers, Buses, Service trucks, Front end loaders, Forklifts, Service trucks, Generators, Telescopic Material Handlers, etc. and related equipment according to sound engineering practice and equipment specifications
• Take ownership of the machines or vehicles to be maintained by them, advising the foreman on the current condition of vehicles and advising on best solutions for maintenance

You will be responsible to:

• To Investigate, diagnose and perform trade related maintenance and repair of vehicles and machinery according to the maintenance requirements and attend to defects raised on pre-start reports, breakdown sheets and over-inspection reports
• Must perform equipment over-inspection on work done by apprentices and operators where appropriate and provide feedback and guidance as required
• Provide relevant feedback to the Supervisor and co-workers regarding equipment performance and conditions and carry out scheduled and non-scheduled repairs as required
• You will need to discuss work backlog and future work requirements with the Supervisor and plan corrective measures to rectify e.g. re-scheduling, prioritizing, labour assistance, etc
• Identify spares requirements and order according to departmental procedure
• Adhere to policies and procedures Perform inspections in accordance with the Mine Health & Safety Act regulations, manufacturing and company standards to report all defects and breakdowns on equipment and machinery to the Supervisor on a shift basis.

This role is in the Engineering Department at a CL level reporting to the Engineering Foreman

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and/or Full Technical N3 trade specific (4 subjects) certificate or relevant NQF level 4 qualification.
• Recognised Diesel Mechanic Trade Test Certificate

Experience & knowledge required

• Minimum of 5 years previous experience in a vehicle maintenance workshop or support service infrastructure
• Minimum of 3 years previous experience in the underground mining experience will be an added advantage
• Basic computer literacy and SAP will be advantageous
• Experience in Dyno and Simret Testing will be advantageous
