SUMMARY:
An established organisation within the road construction and heavy plant environment is seeking a qualified Red Seal Diesel Mechanic for its Wadeville operation. The successful candidate must have at least 5 years’ post-trade experience working on heavy plant, construction equipment and commercial diesel vehicles, with strong fault-finding, diagnostic, hydraulic and mechanical repair skills.

POSITION INFO:

Red Seal Diesel Mechanic – Heavy Plant / Construction Equipment

Key Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance on diesel-powered vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out effective fault-finding.
• Repair and maintain diesel engines, transmissions, drivetrains, steering and suspension systems.
• Work on hydraulic and air systems.
• Attend to breakdowns and field-service requirements when needed.
• Conduct mechanical inspections and identify potential failures before they occur.
• Complete job cards, inspection checklists and service records accurately.
• Maintain records of repairs, servicing and parts used.
• Assist with spare parts and component control.
• Ensure all work is completed in line with company health, safety and operational standards.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Recognised Diesel Mechanic Trade Test / Red Seal qualification – essential.
• Minimum 5 years’ post-trade experience as a Diesel Mechanic.
• Proven experience working on heavy plant, construction equipment and/or commercial vehicles.
• Strong diesel mechanical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Practical experience with hydraulics, transmissions, drivetrains, steering and suspension systems.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English and Afrikaans.
• Own mechanical tools.
• Willingness to work overtime, standby and attend breakdowns when required.
• Willingness to travel to operational sites when necessary.

Advantageous

• EC driver’s licence.
• Experience within road construction, civil construction, asphalt, bitumen, earthmoving or heavy plant environments.
• Previous field-service or breakdown experience.
