Design Engineer / Draughtsman

SUMMARY:
Our client in the PMB area is recruiting for a Design Engineer, who will be responsible for taking concepts or processes that have been proposed to customers by our dynamic team and ensuring that a workable solution is achieved

POSITION INFO:

• Engaging with the sales team and customers to develop a workable solution to specifications put forward. 
• Designing and draughting the equipment that is used in the above-mentioned industries. This will require a design to be drawn from concept or modify existing designs. Drawings will consist of a complete set of manufacturing drawings, including, General Arrangement, Process and Instrumentation Diagram, Plant layouts, Weld maps, Pipework drawings, Maintenance instructions etc.
• Designing pipework and ancillary items to tie processing equipment together. These items make up a large portion of a project and the following are items that need to be considered, designed for and implemented:
  • Transportation: Cradles, Rigging methods, Container constraints, customer site constraints, truck layouts.
  • Electrical: Electrical panel placement, cable runs, cable supports, lighting push buttons, motors, heating elements, instrumentation etc.
  • Pneumatic: Specification of pneumatic components, pneumatic diagrams, pneumatic fitment and testing.
  • Printing: Name plates, Decals, Hose collars, Tags.
  • Documentation: All drawings are updated, and the final product matches the general arrangement drawings. For small manufactured systems, the Standard operating procedures or Functional Design specification must be complete.
• Designing tanks, pressure equipment, heat exchanges etc. to customer specifications. This includes designing to the specified legal requirement, ASME VIII, SANS 347 and other codes.
• Design within an allowed budget from the sales team and tracking costs all the way through the design phase of a project
• Plan a full set of drawings. With the aid of the project planner, allocates deadlines to each, and is responsible for meeting all deadlines.
• Following through with the designed equipment’s fabrication and commissioning/installation process and rectifies or reports any concerns or deviations from the design or plan. 
• At times it will be required to go to site and install or rectify equipment when the installation team has been committed elsewhere. 
• Ensuring projects are filed logically and as per procedure during and after projects
• Ensuring drawing and standard component libraries are kept neat and functional at all times and design considerations are documented and filed into the correct project.
• Researching and continuously learning new and improved methods of staying ahead, remaining efficient and delivering results
• Performing Root Cause Analysis on items or equipment that has failed and rectifying the flaws and developing solutions

 QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

• Qualification – B Eng / BSc / B. Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Draughting Diploma
• Previous experience and a proven track record as a designer/draughtsman. A minimum of 4 years work experience is required and 2 of those need to be in a designer or draughtsman role
• Computer literacy (MS Office, AutoCAD, Inventor (or similar)) is essential
• Must have a driver’s licence
