SUMMARY:
Our client in Saudi Arabia is looking for a Day Shift Supervisor to join their Can Recycling Unit department. The successful incumbent will directly report to the CRU Operations Manager. Maintains Internal and external departmental communication and coordination with cast house department, transport, rolling mills, maintenance, utility, safety, and Laboratory.

POSITION INFO:
Overall Job Purpose

  • Responsible to supervise and coordinate all activities related to day operations of the CRU: Furnaces area, Preheat station, Cold Area, De-lacquer Furnace, and rotary furnace, including handling shipping and storage of dross, controlling the operations in specific areas, to ensure that all production activities are carried out safely and efficiently according to the standard operating procedures to meet the operational targets, keeping all operating costs to the minimum. 
  • Coordinates with Maintenance and other support groups to ensure smooth metal operations. 
  • Overseas operations personnel needs including discipline, coaching, training, and evaluating employee performance. 
  • Investigates, reviews and controls implementation of safety regulations and company policies and procedures. 
  • Creates and submits weekend and month-end reports to the senior management.

Job Description

Environment, Health & Safety:

  • Cooperates with EHS team about any action they take to comply with the OHS Act or Regulations. 
  • Complies with all agreed occupational health, safety and environmental regulations in order to protect personnel and physical assets. 
  • Plans the work in accordance with safety procedures and standards.
  • Contributes to Near miss reporting.
  • Coordinates with Audit team.
  • Contributes to raising incident reports
Production:
  • Maximizes productivity of Furnaces and equipment at optimum capacity at the least cost.
  • Minimizes operating costs by controlling delays and optimizing the use of operating materials and supplies.
  • Ensures complete personnel attendance and initiates appropriate action as needed to ensure continuity and efficiency of operations.
  • Ensures immediate carrying out of operations during delays or equipment breakdowns or shutdowns by providing directions and guidance to shift crews.
  • He is Responsible for Furnace and auxiliary equipment operations, maintaining the capacity output of the furnaces by hot and cold cleaning. 
  • Responsible for de-drossing and dross handling. 
  • Ensures that molten metal is transferred to cast house as per specification. Also ensures the process parameters are maintained as per the operating schedule and quality system while proactively looking to reduce the cost of production through continuous improvement.
Quality:
  • Maintains safety and follows SOP & Standard Work Instructions. 
  • Responsible to ascertain quality through Furnace metal samples.
  • Achieves the target quality. 
  • Reduces the rejection rate.
  • Reduces the quality defects
Management:
  • Maintains good housekeeping, and Kaizen activities.  
  • Maintains ZERO Incident policy of the company throughout the shift.
  • Participating in ongoing continual improvement projects, suggestion
  • Scheme and cost reduction (DI) projects. 
  • Develops and trains/coaches’ employees.
  • Increases the disciplined behavior among the crew.

Job Relevant Information (Boundaries And Decision-Making Authority)

  • Ensures that all workflows and activities are implemented based on approved systems, procedures and instructions.
  • Receives/implements instructions from the Manager and relays these instructions to peers and subordinates and to give feedback as appropriate.
  • Implements work schedule/activities assigned to the team during maintenance down days and shutdowns as per plan, organizes team members to carry out these tasks in an orderly manner to accomplish the tasks on time.
  • Logs the day shift’s performance and other relevant highlights and observations in the logbook.
  • Prepares Daily Production and Weekly Production reports.
  • Evaluates individual performance of personnel and recommends appropriate training to enhance his skills and knowledge and thereby improve output.
  • Prepares incident reports involving personnel or equipment, conducts investigation and recommends solutions in coordination with HSE and other concerned agencies to prevent recurrence of similar incidents. Wear always required PPE and follow safe work practices.
  • Reports, Investigates, and monitors near misses / incidents in area of control, conduct and participate in all activities relating removal of hazards in your work area.
  • Assists with identification of hazards arising from activities in work area, ensuring that all are communicated to relevant personnel in order to maintain a hazard free work area, also Identifying and evaluating potential / existing safety problems, suggesting solutions and recommending suitable corrective measures.
  • Coordinates with Production Planning and Logistic.
  • Coordinates with Maintenance cast house and Logistics to ensure equipment reliability and continuous operation.
  • Maintains good standard of housekeeping and asserts safety awareness in the workplace and provide for safe and well-maintained workplace to protect personnel from harm.
  • Maintains discipline and ensure compliance of Maaden Rules and Regulations and other company-wide policies and sees to it that any violation is dealt with fairly in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Identifies and evaluates quality problems, suggest solutions, and take corrective actions.
  • Initiates investigations on problems associated with equipment and process, and recommends modification to improve quality, increase productivity, prevent major equipment breakdown, and optimize cost.
  • Implements Quality Circle, Quality Improvement and Company''s Safety Management plan and encourage employees to participate actively.
  • Conducts Monthly Safety Meeting. Assists with the continual improvement of the Quality System by implementing and participating in process improvement initiatives in relative areas.
  • Performs any additional task assigned by the CRU Operations Manager.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

Educational Qualifications:
  • Minimum Diploma in Engineering. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or B.S. Degree with minimum of 4-6 years of experience in the rolling mill or CRU operation field is highly preferable.
Experience:
  • Candidates should have 10+ yrs. experience as a leader in operations, quality, development, program management, and engineering in a manufacturing process environment.
  • Operational and supervisory experience in the production department of Rolling Mills or Can Recycling plant is highly preferable.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of the specific process being operated is required.
Skills:
  • Achievement orientated, ability to work under stress
  • Strong motivation and history to develop personnel to full potential.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, and customers.
  • Ability to calculate simple mathematical equations to calculate figures and amounts such as concentrations, percentage, area, circumference, and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

High Performance Behaviours
  • 60% of work in supervising and report writing, and decision making and 40 % job in adverse plant conditions, dust, noise etc for supervising and trouble shooting. 
  • Supervisory skills, planning and scheduling skills, problem solving skills, optimising skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills. 
  • PC literacy English language skills are required.
