Data Engineer

Respected and talented Investment Management team in Cape Town seek a Data Engineer to join their dynamic Data Science team!  Prospective candidates must have a proven track record of Python and SQL, and experience managing large data.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the investment team database architecture, data flow and processes
• Optimise stored large data procedures and table structures for scale
• Write ETL scripts for data ingestion, report generation and data transfers
• Automate data checks and database cleaning
• Design data tables for current and future requirements
• Monitor activity, administer user functions and maintain backups
• Create and add to existing in-house Python Modules, Python ETL scripting
• Linux server admin, bash scripting and server monitoring
• Process documentation, version control, daily processes execution and any ad hoc query management

Requirements

• Minimum of a completed post graduate degree Information Systems / Maths / Statistics / Actuarial / Computer Science or similar
• Minimum of 2 years in a data management role, with ETL processes at scale - a must!
• Must have strong programming skills, in Python and SQL as well as Linux server admin
• Must have high levels of self-confidence and ability to drive projects
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Innovative and driven
• Pay high attention to detail with high level of accuracy
• Excellent problem solver, who is decisive, and action orientated
