A leading Private Medical Group has a vacancy for a Data Analyst Lead (ACI preferred Candidates) in Gauteng.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

SUMMARY OF ROLE

  • The Data Analytics Lead role is required to manage and guide a team of data analysts that implement and maintain the data analytics and reporting requirements within the business and co-ordinate the Data Scientists that support these functions.
  • Key responsibilities will include stakeholder engagement, team and project management for all reporting and data analytics projects, allocating work and prioritisation.
  • The Data Analyst Lead must ensure adherence to best practices in the data analytics development life cycle such that high quality automated solutions are delivered to business in a repeatable manner.
  • As team lead, provide direction to the Data Analysts and ensure alignment between the requirements from business, the approach taken to deliver the solution and the data available from the data engineering team.
  • The Data Analytics Lead is responsible for defining the approach taken within projects. Typical considerations for assessing the approach will include considering the available data, the business requirements, the technology landscape, big data and distributed computation thereof, complex business modelling, machine learning integrations and the reporting requirements.
  • Assist in prioritising work requests and ensure an evenly distributed capacity allocation within the team.
  • Address performance issues and provide coaching and support to team members to develop.
  • Maintain a well-structured backlog of work tasks and ensure a visible, transparent view of allocation is maintained at all times. Send out regular updates to key stakeholders with the view of currently workload to ensure transparency.
  • The Data Analytics Lead must work well in an agile multi-disciplined environment.

 

Team Lead / Management Functions

  • Manage a team of Data Analysts and Data Scientists. Provide direction, guidance (not necessarily technical guidance) and structure and ensure alignment to overall team priorities.
  • Engage with various business units and domain experts to understand the business problems and opportunities, elicit requirements, understanding of the business needs and translate these into tangible
  • actionable deliverables.
  • Oversee the tasks and projects the team have to deliver.
  • Work task allocation, management and reporting.
  • Ensure vacant roles in the team are filled timeously.

 

Data Analytics

  • Data analytics solution scoping and project planning.
  • Oversee and utilising the data analytics development cycle to implement analytics solutions.
  • Performance management of Data Analysts and where relevant Data Scientists
  • Ensure reliable and valuable data analytics, reporting and data science solutions are delivered to business.
  • Identify opportunities to add value within the business that is delivered through data analytics solutions.
  • Oversee the data analytics development cycle and incorporate best practice within this process.
  • Taking a business need/question and analyse the data in such a way that it can be answered by answering a data question.
  • Working knowledge of how data science (machine learning) can be utilised within prescriptive analytics projects.
  • Deliver a diverse set of solutions to business requiring continuous problem solving to navigate the requirements and critical thinking to identify opportunities.


Data Visualization and Reporting

  • Ensure reporting and analytics solutions meet the need of the stakeholders.
  • Have a deep understanding of best practices when implementing reports and practical experience utilising Microsoft PowerBI.


Quality Assurance

  • Ensure ongoing knowledge of industry standards as well as best practice and identify opportunities to enhance the internal processes within the team.
  • Review team deliverables


Best Practice and Research

  • Participate in the relevant knowledge sharing forums
  • Keep abreast of current research in the discipline for the benefit of business sustainability and alignment to best practice standards.


Transformation

  • Ensure achievement of transformation goals as set out by the Transformation Committee.

  • Work effectively and co-operatively and lead others so as to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial.
  • Establish and service relationships with all internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to communicate well to a diverse group of individuals ranging from executives, doctors, clinical experts, data analysts and programmers. This will be in both verbal and written communication.
  • Actively provide leadership and participate as a member of a team, recognising the importance of embracing differences to achieve organisational goals and the Group's strategy.

  • Consult with all business divisions to ensure an optimal outcome, suitable and practical application of the end product while ensuring regular communication on progress as well as issues to business management and end-users.
