Counsellors x 10: DPP & SAMURAI Study - FTC vacancies are available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium's Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (RHI) in Hillbrow - Johannesburg.

POSITION INFO:

Background

The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is a renowned African-led research institute that seeks solutions to Africa’s health challenges.

It is located within the University of the Witwatersrand and addresses some of the greatest public health concerns affecting our region, including HIV and its related problems, sexual and reproductive health and vaccinology. This is done through pioneering, multi-disciplinary research; responsive technical support and innovation in health services; and evidence-based policy development and advocacy with national, regional and global stakeholders.

Main purpose of the job

  • To provide HIV rapid testing services and holistic HIV counseling and support to participants

Location

  • Research Centre CRS, Hillbrow

Key performance areas

  • Perform HIV rapid tests
  • Ensure related quality control procedures are followed
  • Ensure results are documented as required
  • Provide pre and post testing counselling
  • Provide HIV information to participants that includes but is not limited to risk reduction, ARV’s, adherence, , nutrition, hygiene, infant feeding
  • Provide counselling regarding participant disclosure
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained
  • Conduct in-depth one on one counselling sessions and group counselling as and when required in accordance with counselling guidelines
  • Provide adherence and contraceptive counselling if required
  • Review evaluate and document participant progress in participant binders
  • Compile monthly reports
  • Assist with research-related activities as and when required
  • Ensure all QC errors are addressed timeously
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership for driving own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities
  • Comply with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Protocol requirements and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Verify the accuracy of data in source documentation and accuracy of transcription from source data Case Report Forms (CRF) as needed
  • Ensure errors on source documents e.g. CRF’s are corrected, initialed and dated
  • Support the timely transmission/data faxing of relevant Case Report Forms following QC activity (as needed)
  • Ensure completion of corrective action of internal and external QC reports and monitoring reviews
  • Assist with staff training (and retraining) where error trends are identified

Required minimum education and training

  • Grade 12
  • Accredited certificate/training in performing fingerpicks & HIV tests
  • Accredited certificate in basic HIV counseling or equivalent qualification

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities

  • Ability to write reports and to use Microsoft Office packages
  • Fluency in more than one African language (especially isiZulu & Sesotho)
  • Experience working in a research-related environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work towards deadlines
  • Be a team player
  • Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills

Required minimum work experience

  • 6 months experience in HIV counseling
  • Experience with Contraceptive and Adherence Counselling would be advantageous
