Background
Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (“WHC“) is a wholly-owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences. WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives. In addition, WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.
The Clinical HIV Research Unit (Wits CHRU) was initiated in 1998 by Professor Ian Sanne, under the auspices of the University of the Witwatersrand (WITS). Today the CHRU is an HIV/AIDS, TB, and Cervical Cancer research syndicate of the Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited (WHC), which is a wholly-owned subsidiary company of WITS.
Main purpose of the job
- To recruit, educate, and follow-up participants in all clinical trials as per protocol and unit policies requirements
Location
- Helen Joseph Hospital, Johannesburg
Key performance areas
- Approach wards, clinics and potential participants
- Introduce research study to clinics and participants
- Educate potential participants on the research study requirements
- Conduct interview with the participant on either questionnaire or counselling as per study requirements
- Ask questions according to the counselling checklist
- Answer patient questions regarding the study protocol or requirements
- Retain participants, trace and do home visits
- Report on the progress and developments
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled
- Filling of research documents on participants timeously
- Provide effective and efficient telephonic and email communication
- Documenting of Pre and Post HIV counselling forms and adherence counselling as per unit SOP
- Administering informed consent (ICF) with the participants
- Communicate with the MO/PI and Study Coordinators regarding participants and do as instructed by MO/PI and line manager
Required minimum education and training
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities
- Ability to ensure all tasks are seen through to completion
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to speak several African languages
- Excellent organizational skills
- Demonstrate resourcefulness and ability to solve a problem
- Demonstrate empathy and patience to participants
Required minimum work experience
- Minimum 1-year experience in Counselling
- Computer literacy using MS Excel and MS Word
