JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main purpose of the job:

  • To provide HIV rapid testing services and holistic HIV counselling and support to participants in the Gophelega project

Location:

  • Pretoria - Tshwane - KT Motubatse Clinic and Phedisong 4 CHC

Key performance areas:

  • Perform HIV rapid tests within the allocated cluster
  • Ensure related quality control procedures are followed according to RTCQI policies
  • Ensure results are documented as required
  • Implement required IQC measures and ensure all QC errors are addressed timeously
  • Implement all other testing modalities such as HIVSS according to guidelines
  • Provide pre and post-testing counselling
  • Provide HIV information to participants that include but is not limited to risk reduction, ARVs, adherence, nutrition, hygiene, infant feeding
  • Provide counselling regarding participant disclosure
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times
  • Conduct in-depth one on one counselling sessions and group counselling as and when required in accordance with counselling guidelines
  • Provide adherence and contraceptive counselling if required
  • Refer clients needing additional support such as psychosocial support to the relevant Differentiated Care Teams (DCTs) for timeous management
  • Support identification and referral of newly diagnosed clients to relevant studies such as Recency Study
  • Review, evaluate and document participant progress in participant binders
  • Compile monthly reports
  • Assist with research-related activities as and when required
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership of driving your own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities

Required minimum education and training:

  • Perform HIV rapid tests within the allocated cluster
  • Ensure related quality control procedures are followed according to RTCQI policies
  • Ensure results are documented as required

Required minimum work experience:

  • 6 months’ experience in HIV Testing Services (HTS)
  • Experience with Contraceptive and Adherence Counselling would be advantageous

Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities:

  • Ability to write reports and to use Microsoft Office packages
  • Fluency in more than one African language (especially isiZulu and Sesotho)
  • Experience working in a research-related environment
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work towards deadlines
  • Be a team player
  • Good interpersonal, communication and time management skills

Demands of the job:

  • Confidentiality, tact and discretion should be maintained at all times
  • Ability to work with patients who are HIV positive
  • Ability to maintain flexibility for service provision within the allocated cluster

Communications and relationships:

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders
