Cost Management Accountant

JOB PURPOSE

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for assessing business expenses and preparing optimized budget plans for the company. The duties include reviewing financial records, researching the market rate for key business costs, and adjusting the company ledger to accurately reflect balance sheets.

COST ACCOUNTANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Cost Accountants will collaborate with the company’s accountants and financial staff to provide financial and accounting support to executives and department heads who establish goals and budgets for the organization. The duties include:

• Collecting and analysing data about a company’s operational costs.
• Setting standard costs of purchased goods.
• Developing and analysing cost standards.
• Carrying out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis.
• Establishing costs of business processes such as administration, labour, shipping, etc.
• Work in progress, bill of materials and stock controlling.
• Performing account reconciliations.
• Preparing audit reports and presenting their findings to management.
• Recommending changes to the company’s processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize. profit.
• Advising executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data.
• Managing the company’s balance sheet and accounting books.
• Supporting other company accountants with invoicing and capital expenditure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS

• Grade 12 with Mathematics on Higher Grade.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field (essential).
• CIMA qualification advantageous.

EXPERIENCE AND INDUSTRY REQUIREMENTS

• 5 – 8 Years’ experience in a Cost Management Accountant position.
• Experience within the IT and Telecoms industry (essential).
• Solid cost systems background.
• Understanding BOM''s, profit and loss analysis, labour costing, pricing and being able to communicate with ops daily is essential.
• Corporate Client Liaison – Structuring of finance agreements, negotiations.
• Calculate fixed and variable costs for projects and make suggestions on the best strategies to implement.
• Perform break-even analysis and calculate selling prices by applying the correct mark-ups or margins.

• Excellent communication skills in English compulsory.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Self-starter and ability to put new accounting systems, policies, and procedures in place.
• Ability to work closely with accountants, financial managers, directors, and head of departments.
• Analytical thinker with strong conceptual and problem-solving skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail with superb organizational skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Good report-writing, communication, and IT skills.
• Become fully knowledge with industry regulations and PSIRA guidelines.
• Clean criminal record.
• Driver’s License and own transport.
• Stable work history and excellent referrals.
