POSITION INFO:
Our client, a leader in engineering and contracting services, is looking for a finance professional who can own the numbers from factory floor to financials.
This client is a well-established leader in the engineering and contracting sector, delivering complex, large-scale projects across multiple industries. The business operates in a fast-paced, high-performance environment where financial accuracy and cost control are critical to success.
The role sits at the intersection of operations and finance, requiring a hands-on individual who can own the costing function while supporting core financial accounting deliverables. You will work closely with operational teams to ensure cost visibility, margin control, and financial integrity across projects and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the full costing function across projects and operations
- Implement and refine activity-based costing (ABC) methodologies
- Monitor and control work-in-progress (WIP) and bill of materials (BOMs)
- Perform detailed variance analysis and margin reporting
- Ensure accurate inventory valuation and cost allocation
- Translate operational data into clear financial insights for decision-making
- Support month-end processes, including journals, reconciliations, and reporting
- Develop and enhance Excel-based reporting models and dashboards
- Partner with operational teams to identify inefficiencies and drive cost optimisation
Job Experience & Skills Required:- BCom Accounting (essential)
- Proven experience in a cost accounting role within engineering, manufacturing, or project-based environments
- Strong working knowledge of:
- ABC costing
- WIP and BOM management
- Inventory control and variance analysis
- Experience with SYSPRO is highly advantageous
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, data analysis, and reporting models)
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to engage operational stakeholders
- Self-starter with a high level of accountability and attention to detail
- Comfortable operating in a demanding, performance-driven environment
