Conventional Lathe Machine Operator

SUMMARY:
General Engineering company situated in Germiston seeks a well qualified Conventional Lathe Operator to join his team.

Qualification

• Matric
• Trade tested - fitter, turner, machinist

Requirements

• 3 years’ experience in Operating manual lathe machines
• Read and write English
• Read & understand engineering drawings
• Use micrometer, verniers and dial indicator measuring equipment
• Must be able to handle an Overhead Crane
• Must be able to follow written and oral instructions
• Must be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events

Duties

• Plans machining by studying work orders, materials, specifications, drawings, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances.
• Records start/stop times on current electronic system to account for production time.
• Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, or materials onto machines.
• Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in the preparation of machinery work.
• Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining (Cutting & Drilling) process.
• Position and fasten work pieces.
• Observe and listen to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions and to determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
• Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.
• Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor as needed.
• Take responsibility for the hand and machine tools use to complete tasks.
• Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
• Required to work overtime as assigned by your HOD (Head of Department).
