POSITION INFO:

Qualifications & Requitements:

• Registered with the SACPCMP (Must)
• National Diploma in Safety Management / B.Tech in Safety Management/ B.Com Operational Risk Management.
• Thorough knowledge of OSHACT and Construction regulations
• Minimum 5 years working experience within Construction industry.
• Computer literacy as well as good administrative and analytical skills are required.
• Can focus and perform under pressure
• Must have the ability to work independently.
• Excellent problem-solving ability
• Proactive approach to safety related matters
• Resolves conflict situations with ease
• Ability to work with a diverse group of people within the company.
• Willing to travel within the Western Cape region

Functions:

• Support Top Management of the Organization with regards to the roles and responsibility concerns for health, safety and environmental aspects.
• Ensure, in accordance with corporate guidelines, the implementation, updating, reviewing and auditing Company SHE systems, policies and procedures.
• Monitor the effective implementation of appropriate health, safety and environmental system procedures and provide for their updating in line with changes in Legislation and Company Directives.
• Provide support and advice, including supervision on the preparation of plans and procedures for initial contract start-up activities.
• Ensure that operations are in compliance with statutory health, safety and environmental regulations.

Key performance areas (Essential duties and responsibilities):

• Implement, updating, reviewing and auditing Company SHE systems, policies and procedures in accordance with legislation and company requirements
• Ensure Occupational Health & Safety compliance against assigned responsibilities.
• Responsible for ensuring that appointed health and safety representatives conduct monthly Health and Safety inspections of their work areas.
• Participate and when required, chair monthly meetings with safety representatives and contractors and prepare minutes of meetings. Ensure that all deviations mentioned in the meeting are rectified and corrected.
• Overall responsibility to prepare safety risk assessments, safe working procedures and method statement. On an ongoing basis identify and evaluate the risks to which employees may be exposed and communicate these risk assessments to the employees.
• Prepare Construction projects Health and safety files / plans (MH added as extra)
• Conduct and attend technician meetings for SHE purposes (toolbox talks) and keeping record thereof.
• Conduct induction meetings with new employees surrounding Health and Safety procedures / requirements. (MH added as extra)
• Immediate reporting of any incident or accident to management and being able to conduct a thorough accident and incident investigation and come up with remedial actions to prevent future occurrences.
• Complete accident / incident reports for submission to the Compensation Commissioner. (MH added as extra)
• Prepare, arrange, record and report on training as per OSHACT requirements eg Fire-fighting training, First-aid training, mandatory industry training etc
