Construction Commercial Director

SUMMARY:
A Construction Commercial Director is a senior-level executive responsible for the overall commercial success of construction projects and the company''s construction business unit. This role involves strategic planning, revenue generation, cost management, and risk mitigation.

POSITION INFO:

A Commercial Director in the construction industry typically needs a blend of strong commercial acumen, leadership skills, and relevant Construction industry experience. 

• 10+ Years experience in construction, including contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and financial management, is also crucial. 
  • A bachelor''s degree or higher in business, marketing, economics, commercial management, Construction management or quantity surveying is often required or advantageous. 
  • Achieving chartered status, for example, through the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), is highly desirable. 
  • NVQ:

A Level 7 NVQ in Construction Senior Management is a relevant qualification. 

• Deep experience in the construction industry, often progressing from roles like Quantity Surveyor or Project Manager, is vital. 

In this challenging role you will require the following:

Strategic Planning:

Develop and implement commercial strategies for construction projects and the overall business unit.

Revenue Generation:

Drive revenue growth through effective pricing strategies, contract negotiations, and identification of new business opportunities. 

Cost Management:

Oversee project costs, budgets, and financial performance, ensuring projects are completed within allocated resources. 

Contract Management:

Manage all commercial aspects of contracts, including negotiations, variations, and dispute resolution. 

Risk Management:

Identify and mitigate commercial risks associated with projects, including contractual, financial, and legal risks. 

Team Leadership:

Manage and mentor a team of commercial professionals, providing guidance and support to achieve commercial objectives. 

Client Relationship Management:

Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring satisfaction and repeat business. 

Financial Reporting:

Prepare and present regular commercial performance reports to senior management. 

Compliance:

Ensure compliance with all relevant construction legislation, regulations, and company policies. 

Essential Skills and Experience:

Extensive Construction Experience:

Minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction industry, with a strong commercial focus, 

Contractual Expertise:

In-depth knowledge of construction contracts (FIDIC, NEC, JBCC, etc.) and experience in handling claims and disputes. 

Financial Acumen:

Strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control. 

Leadership and Management:

Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, manage performance, and develop commercial talent. 

Negotiation and Communication Skills:

Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
