Sustainability/Conservation Manager

Cape Town

 

Our Client is an award-winning collection of luxury lodges and camps located through Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Their Foundation is a non-profit focused on conservation, education, and empowerment in the communities close to their Camps. Located on the borders of vulnerable wildlife areas, they have worked alongside community partners to achieve shared goals through providing or developing tools and knowledge for communities to make informed decisions about their own futures

 They are looking for a passionate and highly motivated Foundation Manager to work with managers, employees, customers, communities, donors and shareholders to address the organisations approach to environmental responsibility.

This is a great opportunity for a business minded, future focused, innovative, hard-working individual with a thirst to contribute towards holistic and regenerative conservation and community initiatives.  Supported by a responsible tourism industry-leader, the successful incumbent will have an innate passion for sustainable business as well as an understanding of the interface between such work and the commercial aspects of the business.

 

Brief description of duties:

 

  • Identifies ways in which the company can balance business obligations with the goal of respecting, supporting and improving community and conservation within the local territories in which we operate
  • Proposes and implements strategies to address community and conservation concerns
  • Oversees the overall execution, mission, and efficacy of the community and conservation programs with consideration for short term execution as well as long term strategic direction and focus.
  • Implements and leads processes that support improvements that can be made in accordance with the organisations commitment to conservation and community.
  • Evaluates efficacy of conservation and community programs; recommending and implementing improvements as necessary.
  • Monitors and feeds back information on conservation and community concerns, interests, and issues, with appropriate info sharing internally and externally
  • Provides oversight of conservation and community programs with attention to factors such as cost effectiveness, feasibility, and ease of integration other programs and the business itself
  • Works closely with Project Committee, Finance Committee and Marketing Committee, ensuring ongoing delivery of the agreed plans as well as appropriate reporting
  • Works with the EXCO and the Board, preparing the relevant reports, presentations, recommendations and proposals
  • Oversees and maintains appropriate documentation and records including budgets and other financial information
  • Responsible to ensure all fundraising opportunities are identified, explored, and communicated
  • Responsible for all fundraising campaigns (content and channels, including digital and CRM platforms)
  • Responsible for all fundraising efforts, donor relationship management, communications and reporting requirements
  • Represents ABCF at partners and donors at meetings as well as at events and in the field
  • Provides monthly and quarterly reporting on fundraising activities
  • Maintains current working knowledge of, and ensures compliance with, all applicable local, state, federal, and internal environmental laws and regulations.

 

The ideal candidate should have:

 

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant field, preferably with a conservation/sustainability focus
  • A minimum of 8 years of corporate, business and management experience
  • A proven track record of cultivating relationships with key stakeholders
  • Experience working within a conservation environment
  • Experience working to uplift communities would be an advantage
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Good working knowledge of sustainability practices, and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Ability to analyse and understand relevant and valuable information
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office and related software
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to build, implement and manage budgets
  • Excellent presentation skills
