A Community Health Worker (Driver) - Key Populations Programme (Transgender) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium’s Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) in the Nelson Mandela Bay District - Eastern Cape.

Background
The Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) is a renowned African-led research institute that seeks solutions to Africa’s health challenges.
It is located within the University of the Witwatersrand and addresses some of the greatest public health concerns affecting our region, including HIV and its related problems, sexual and reproductive health, and vaccinology. This is done through pioneering, multi-disciplinary research; responsive technical support and innovation in health services; and evidence-based policy development and advocacy with national, regional, and global stakeholders.
The main purpose of the job
- To transport the Professional Nurses, Peer Educators and other Wits RHI staff for community outreach in the Nelson Mandela District
- To transport clients from different destinations and to collect/deliver documents from various locations in accordance with the relevant policies and procedures
Location
- Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth
Key performance areas
Vehicle care and maintenance
- Keep the vehicles clean and carry out the necessary checks
- Operate the vehicle with care and consideration to other road users
- Report any vehicle faults, repairs, or accidents timely
Driving and delivery
- Liaise with management for daily transport schedule
- Complete relevant vehicle usage forms in accordance with policy
- Transport clients safely to and from destinations
- Transport staff for community outreach
- Collect and deliver documents and/or goods safely
- Obey traffic rules at all times
- Provide any other ad hoc duties as assigned by management
Office support
- Assist with ad hoc administrative and maintenance duties as assigned by management
Required minimum education and training
- Grade 12 (basic numeracy and literacy)
- A valid South African driver’s license (Code 08 or Code 10)
- Certification in an advanced driving or Professional Drivers Permit (PDP)
Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities
- Fluent in English and one other African language (Afrikaans and IsiXhosa preferable)
- Certification in advanced driving or a Professional Drivers permit
- Able to work independently
- A professional and positive disposition
- Customer-orientated and tactful
- Self-motivated with high regard for work ethic, values and integrity
- IATA certification will be an advantage
Demands of the job
- Traveling and overtime/working over weekends may be required from time to time
- Punctuality and good timekeeping must be adhered to at all times
- Good sense of direction
- Able to handle situations of breakdowns, hi-jacking, etc.
Required minimum work experience
- Minimum of 1-year experience as a Driver
