JOB DESCRIPTION:

Main purpose of the job:

  • To provide leadership and expertise in the comprehensive clinical management of people living with HIV, with a focus on those with complex and advanced clinical disease, COVID-19, and supported by ACC Doctor and facility teams, within designated hospitals and clinics
  • Serve as the team lead for the allocated facility in the absence of a Nurse lead

Location:

  • Wits RHI Ekurhuleni District (Hospital to be confirmed)

Key performance areas:

  • Together with the ACC doctor, DoH, and hospital/ Clinic management, support the delivery or referral for comprehensive, high quality, clinical services for people living with HIV including, but not limited to:
    • Management of ART treatment failure
    • Management of HIV Opportunistic infections
    • Management of treatment complications
    • Management of advanced clinical disease
    • Clinical Case Discussions
    • Ward rounds
  • Provide comprehensive clinical care and support to patients at the designated hospital or clinic through direct service delivery
  • Contribute to the analysis of programmatic data of the hospital to identify gaps in clinical care, and progress toward targets
  • Implement novel strategies to improve clinical services at the designated hospital
  • Act as Wits RHI’s first point of contact and team lead for the designated hospital on aspects relating to clinical care
  • Support the management of activities of Wits RHI staff based at the designated hospital
  • Implement new treatment protocols and guidelines
  • Compile monthly and quarterly reports of activities and disseminate them to stakeholders
  • Review and analyze key project indicators at the designated hospital on a regular basis
  • Collaborate with the broader Gophelega team to monitor progress toward project targets
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and demonstrates effective self-management
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of own work are consistently and accurately maintained
  • Apply project management methodology from project concept to completion
  • Maintain a positive attitude and respond openly to feedback
  • Take ownership of driving your own career development by participating in ongoing training and development activities such as forums, conferences, policy setting workshops, etc.

Required minimum education and training:

  • BCMP, Diploma in HIV management
  • Driver’s license

Required minimum work experience:

  • 5 years experience working within or supporting the public health sector, 2-3 years experience in HIV management and management of complex or advanced clinical disease cases

Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities:

  • Confident in managing clinical care of HIV-infected patients
  • Experience managing or identifying the need for referral of patients with HIV/TB, DR TB, advanced clinical disease, and opportunistic infections
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to navigate complicated situations
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Excellent levels of written and verbal communication
  • Attention to detail and ability to problem-solve
  • Ability to communicate in other languages preferable in relation to the area
  • Demonstrated leadership ability

Demands of the job:

  • Able to work in a highly demanding and pressurized environment, traveling may be required

Communications and relationships:

  • Develop and effectively manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders (Within relevant Wits RHI Structures, DoH)
