SUMMARY:
A position for a Claims Manager has become available in the Claims Central Services division. We are looking for an energetic, dynamic individual to manage claims, this includes the entire claims process from registration, adjusting, settlement / rejection to managing the claims team, including service levels, and ensuring that claims are settled within the confines of the policy coverage.

Job Purpose: 
The responsibility of the Claims Manager will be to manage the regional claims staff, claims staff in other regions (as specified) including up skilling and claims training. (Full function)
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a diligent and accurate manner. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 
  • 3 years management experience in claims team and demonstrated track record of people management and delegation experience in a claim environment 
  • Post graduate degree or similar qualification preference 
  • Relevant Insurance qualifications, min 120 NQF credits and completed RE level 4 preferable 
  • Must be Risk conscious and diligent 
  • Must be energetic and have the ability to work through a large number of claims and queries daily
  • Professional, well-spoken and good listener 
  • Strong negotiator with excellent persuasion and problem-solving skills 
  • Very broad general knowledge 
  • Ability to adapt to change and to work under extreme pressure, within given timelines 
  • Ability to work with various different individuals with different knowledge, skill and experience 
  • Must be able to adapt to change 
  • Must be analytical, with good attention to detail at all times 
  • Must be fully bilingual (Afrikaans and English), good communication is essential in this role within the company 
  • Must be technologically driven and comfortable with different operating packages including excel, PowerPoint and word 
  • Must be completely competent and efficient on systems 
  • Must be organised, demonstrate good time management skills and be able to prioritize accordingly - Must be a team player and creator of trust, be assertive, positive and friendly 
  • Must have a “can do” attitude, be disciplined and confident and helpful
Knowledge: 
  • Must have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of commercial and transport insurance 
  • Must have good working knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry and 
  • Must have good knowledge of Insurance legislation and compliance 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Company''s products and value-added products and benefits, including all classes of business 
  • Clear understanding of claims process, procedures and approach to claims handling 
  • To be completely competent and confident in using proprietary systems.
Responsibilities: 
  • Responsible for the Regional loss ratio as per set targets 
  • Responsible for the management of the Regional claims staff, including skills development and claims training 
  • Monthly reporting to the Regional manager on Claim numbers, productivity stats, large losses, identified weaknesses, training required, performance issues, outstanding claim numbers and claims turnaround times 
  • Responsible for monitoring the workflow on the 1Web claims section and for data integrity 
  • To be available for broker consultation or claims discussion externally or internally 
  • To be available for claims consultation and or clarification of underwriting intentions during the claims process 
  • To provide feedback to Regional managers and Divisional heads on product developments/ shortfalls/needs and recommendations from a claims and risk perspective 
  • Interpretation of policy wording 
  • Ensuring claims are settled in terms of cover, including conducting claims audits 
  • Relationship building with service providers and suppliers including assessors and investigators 
  • Responsible for comment and or motivation on requests for commercial settlements 
  • Management of all claims registration, appointments, payments, approvals and rejections 
  • Handling all insured/broker and internal customer complaints 
  • Feedback at monthly regional meetings regarding the loss ratio and potential concerns
