SUMMARY:
Our client based in Olifantsfontain requires an experienced caustic operator to extract any residual Aluminium from the die orifice after extrusion by dissolving it in a caustic solution. A minimum of 2 years experience, a valid matric, as well as knowledge in the aluminium industry is essential.

POSITION INFO:
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Tends equipment to causticize sodium compounds recovered from manufacturing processes.
  • Start pumps to control the flow of slaked lime and recovered chemicals into reactor tank, causticized solution to storage tanks, and lime sludge through washers to lime kiln, according to specifications.
  • Observes dial indicators, charts, flowmeters, and signal lights on the panel to determine the level and temperature of the solution in reactor tank, rate that chemicals flow into reactor tank, level of lime sludge in settling tanks, and amount of sludge in washers.
  • Tests water temperature and solution concentration, using a thermometer and hydrometer. Turns steam valve to regulate temperature and adds water or caustic solution to maintain specified concentration of solution.
  • Tests alkalinity of causticized solution by titration, records test results, and computes percentage of caustic in solution, using slide.
  • Collect dies from the die correction area in a metal skit and transport to the caustic area with a fork lift.
  • Place dies onto a stripping table and strip using an Allen key, hammer and chisel
  • Remove excess aluminium manually at this stage.
  • Load the dies into small metal baskets talking extra care not to damage them.
  • Load the dies into a sufficiently filled caustic tank using the overhead crane.
  • Leave the die in the sealed caustic tanks until all aluminium is removed from the die.
  • Check the dies in the tank after 2-3hours.
  • The top dies must be removed individually to check, if ready transfer dies to the rinse tank.
  • Remove the die that have been clean from the caustic tanks in their baskets into the rinsing tank to remove excess caustic from the surfaces.
  • Place the basket onto the floor and empty back onto the metal pallet before transporting to die correction for sandblasting.
  • Depending on the space, the new dies can be added first in first out method must apply i.e. new dies on the bottom of the tank and half cleaned dies must be on the top.
  • The dies that were previously in the caustic tank before must be on the top.

  •  Valid Matric certificate
  • Caustic experience Minimum of 2 – years
