SUMMARY:
Job Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to promptly process the acquired library materials and make them readily available to users:
The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Improving access and success of students.
  • Helping in providing and making sure that information resources are readily accessible.
  • Contributing in information retrieval to support research, teaching and learning
  • Promoting collaboration among Cataloguers.


POSITION INFO:
Key Performance Areas:

  • Creating bibliographic records on WorldShare, and export to Sierra System
  • Creating metadata, checking the completeness and accuracy of the ETD provided on staffshare and upload it on Vital.
  • Creating and/or download metadata for e-resources and research data, check for ssj numbers or EBZ from Ex-libris.
  • Maintenance of records by upgrading short records, modifying bibliographic records, and merging duplicates.
  • Exporting (downloading) the bibliographic record from Worldshare to Sierra

Core competencies
  • Knowledge of overall technical services’ operations and specifically bibliographic formats and standards, namely; (MARC21,) (RDA/AACR2), (LCSH), (DDC 23) and OCLC WorldShare.
  • Knowledge of metadata schemas such as Dublin Core, MODS and XML.
  • Knowledge of Sierra Cataloguing Module or any Library Management System (LMS) cataloguing module; its enhancements, updates and application and interpretation of cataloguing and classification practices.
  • Knowledge of resource description and discovery platforms, e.g. Vital.
  • Working knowledge of Ex-libris 360 will be recommended.
  • Working knowledge of NACO authorities will be recommended.
Minimum Requirements:
  • B Bibl Degree or equivalent LIS qualification
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Cataloguing and Classification in an academic library.
  • Membership of LIASA or other Library Associations may be an advantage.
